I was going to save this book as a Christmas gift for my kids but it served a much better purpose. As many of you know, my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 3rd grade. My daughter is now in 3rd grade and I’ve watched her like a hawk for signs. She showed a couple minor signs and we tested her a few Saturdays ago. She was hyperglycemic. My husband grabbed this book on our way to ER and to say it was a Godsend is no joke.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Eye-Popping Oddities kept my kids entertained and our minds off of this new life-changing diagnosis over the course of her hospital stay. To hear your child laugh while hooked up to an IV and getting blood drawn every hour is simply stated, a blessing. I am a Christian and I’m not saying that this book brought up through this diagnosis, because I know it was God and all the prayers from family and friends. What I am saying is that this is a fun, exciting book that can get your mind off just about anything as you marvel about unbelievable stories of other humans.
