We recently had our family portraits taken. They turned out gorgeous and will be cherished for years to come. To get the best family portrait, you must coordinate the clothing for everyone. I do this for holidays too, including Christmas and Easter!
Shopping for portrait and Christmas clothing is usually mom’s job and can be difficult if you run from store to store coordinating. That is why I shop at Kohl’s for family portrait and Christmas clothing.

Christmas Clothing from Kohl’s
I’ve always shopped at Kohl’s for Christmas clothing because it is easy to find matching colors and the same brands across the departments.At Kohl’s, you can find name brand clothing for everyone in your family – from newborns to adults.
I’m very traditional when it comes to Christmas clothing. I like a lot of red. Thankfully so does my family. One thing that I have learned is that you don’t have to match 100% perfectly for photos – if you try too hard, sometimes it is just ‘too much’ and shows every little imperfection.
My daughter fell in love with this IZ Amy Byer Mock-Bolero Diagonal Ruffle Dress, she had to have it. It is a more grown up look for my daughter but still completely age-appropriate, another thing I value with clothing from Kohl’s. I headed over to my favorite brand for this Chaps Plaid Full-Zip Sweater Jacket. I like it because it is a cross between a blazer, sweater, and jacket. It is a cozy addition to my winter wardrobe. I paired it with black slacks.
My husband and son aren’t the shirt and tie unless absolutely necessary. Christmas clothing is suppose to be fun, not botherson. My husband looked sharp in a Van Heusen Flex Collar Classic-Fit Dress Shirt with a Apt. 9® Herringbone Vest. The vest really dresses his outfit up. My son wore a Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens Stormtroopers Shirt & Tie Set. Who knew that a shirt and tie could be so exciting?!
By all means, be sure to find a photographer that is good with kids and keeps it fun or it won’t matter what clothes you are wearing.
Family Portrait Clothing from Kohl’s
For our family portrait, we chose a more casual look. I like the look of jeans in family portraits. It is what most of us where daily, so it helps capture our family in a more natural state.
I chose to purchase dark denim for all of us. I wore Apt. 9® Embellished Bootcut Jeans, my husband wore Levi’s 505, my son wore Urban Pipeline® Relaxed Straight Jeans, and my daughter wore Levi’s Taylor Slim Bootcut Jeans. This is the easy part of selecting clothing for a family portrait because Kohl’s has all of our favorite brands in many different styles and fits for each of our preferences.
I usually start with a seasonal color, like neutrals for Fall. My daughter fell in love with this Mudd® Faux-Sherpa Hooded Vest and the Weavers brand knit top. My son doesn’t like to wear sweaters, but he does like plaid, so he wore a Tony Hawk button down plaid shirt.
So, we worked around their clothing. I found a coordinating ELLE™ Cable-Knit Turtleneck Tunic Sweater and paired it with mole/brown color Women’s Croft & Barrow® Crewneck Tee that coordinated with the men in the picture. My husband wore a green Men’s Arrow Quarter-Zip Dotted Sweater.
Finding coordinating colors and styles was so easy at Kohl’s. I was happy to find everything in one store too!
