How to Choose the Best Bathtub Faucet for Kids

Choosing the best kids bathtub and shower trim and faucet can be lots of fun. There are some really amazing styles to choose from so you can really match the trim kit with your tub, bathroom style, and your own personal taste.  When selecting a faucet and trim kit, quality is just as important as style. You don’t want to buy something that will only last a little while and then start leaking or discoloring. Kids safety is obviously important too.

With American Standard products, you get quality, style, & kid safety features. American Standard is so confident in their faucets that they offer a limited lifetime warranty! When installing an American Standard faucet, you never have to worry about a drippy faucet, they are built to last.

Depending on your project, you may be just replacing the bathroom sink faucet or the entire shower and bathtub trim kit. American Standard has collections of faucets that match and compliment each other. Selecting new faucets for your bathroom can really transform and update any bathroom. American Standard offers easy installation with their products too, so it won’t take all day!

In my previous post, I shared with you about our new American Standard Princeton Tub. It has remarkable built in, kid-friendly features. We selected the Moments collection for the bath tub and shower fixtures. This collection is beautiful and can be purchased in various set ups depending on what you like best. We chose the Moments Bath/Shower Trim Kit with Diverter.

Why we chose the American Standard bathtub faucet

The style caught my eye first, it is sleek, timeless beauty. Available in stainless steel or polished chrome, we choose polished chrome for an ever polished look. The shower head is a 3 part adjustable shower head that delivers nice variations of water sprays, not just a simple shower head with this kit.

The Moments outstretched faucet extends into the tub to deliver an luxurious presence, not just a simple spout.

I especially like the single handle for turning on and adjusting the water, this is ultra important for kids to be able to control the faucet themselves. The diverter is included with an easy to use knob.

American Standard Kid-Safety Measures

The most important reason why we choose the American Standard Moments bathtub trim kit is the Hot Limit Safety  StopMy kids will never get scaled, even if they turn the water on themselves! What a relief for parents! You can adjust the Hot Limit Safety Stop to your own preference and the water will never get hotter than what you set.

The Moments kit also includes pressure balance which means when someone flushes the toilet, the person in the shower doesn’t get scaled. Unfortunately, this has happened many, many times with our old shower. It’s not safe and so inconvenient to not be able to use water when someone is showering or wait for the toilet to fill up before getting into the shower!

Of course, you should be diligent to keep your hot water heater set at a safe temperature. Never let it exceed 125° F (51.66° C). If a child (or adult) puts his hands in water at  125° F for just 2 minutes, he could get 2nd or 3rd degree burns. Pediatricians often recommend setting your water at 120° F, at this temperature a kid would have to run water on his skin for 10 minutes to receive any kind of serious burn.

Serious burns from water is a serious issue. I have seen it first hand with a family friend. They moved to a new apartment, the water was too hot and left serious burns on their toddler. With the Moments Shower and Bath Trim Kit, you can easily update even an apartment fixture easily to keep your kids safe.

Updating your bathtub is easy with TRIMendous

American Standard Moments collection is equipped with the innovative TRIMendous decorative valve trim. TRIMendous trim is designed to fit a universal valve making them easily interchangeable. All you have to do to update a shower is change out the trim.

Installing the Moments Bath / Shower Trim Kit with Diverter

My husband and father-in-law installed the Moments Bath and Shower Trim Kit with ease.

My father-in-law has been installing faucets for years and said the TRIMendous system is very easy to install compared to other units.

When it comes to plumbing, you either need to know what you are doing or hire a professional. Be sure to properly install and check for leaks as you go.

Our plumbing access is a cut out located right in the hallway of our upstairs. I plan to cover it over with drywall and repair with joint compound. This probably isn’t the best idea but I cannot stand seeing that trim and cut out every time I walk by. Any suggestions?

Bathtub project is almost complete

The tub and faucets are in, yippee! You would think that the bathtub is complete, it almost is. We did add a Firenze Bathtub & Wall Set that makes everything super easy to clean. Next, we need to install canned lighting above the shower and trim work around the Firenze wall set.

My kids are not letting these last couple items keep them from their shiny, new bathtub! Elizabeth & Elijah were super excited to get in the bath tub for the first time!  I would never have imagined that a 3 and a 5 year old would enjoy a new bathtub so much! They fight over who gets to get in the bathtub first. They don’t even want to go in our old master bath tub now! I don’t blame them and am quite envious of their beautiful new tub.

As a mom, I feel very good about my kids bathing in their new American Standard Princeton bathtub with the Moments Shower Bath faucet. I like that the water stays warmer in the tub and that the bottom is a non-slip surface for kids safety. I feel relieved that they will never scaled themselves accidentally with the Hot Limit Safety Stop on the faucet. I can see their confidence nudged up because they can adjust and turn off the water themselves now. We are completely thrilled with our American Standard bathroom.

After we lay the flooring, we have a beautiful vanity, sink, and toilet to install, all with great kid-features!

beautiful & the hot water safety stop is awesome! Again, I wish we remodeled our bathroom after our son was born instead of after so we would’ve thought of important features like that!

That’s a nice bathtub faucet. I was going to note about making sure to keep the water heater temperature lower as an added safety measure, but I see you covered that!

Thanks for the tips. My son is beyond the age that I need to worry about him scalding himself in the shower, but I have a niece and 4 nephews that are 6 and under, and this could certainly be useful information to their parents!

LOL @ the kids fighting over the bath. When I first seen the picture I was like eek. I would be so worried of my daughter going in to “take” a bath by herself and burning the heck out of herself. It is awesome they make them with kid safety features.
