Mosquito season is upon us here in Ohio and they will be tormenting us through the fall. Mosquitoes are annoying at best and can also carry awful diseases like West Nile virus, encephalitis. In fact, about 1,000 people suffer from serious illness or death every year in the USA from mosquito bites.
It doesn’t take many of them to spoil playtime outside or a quiet evening in the back yard. It is hard to apply repellent every time you go outside – and then make sure everyone showers afterward. I’ve been using a ThermaCELL lantern since last year to protect my family from mosquitoes. It’s really amazing as it provides a 15 x 15 foot area of protection from mosquitoes for everyone.
This is how it works:

This year, I’m checking out their newest model, the Bristol Mosquito Repeller Lantern. It is an easy alternative from topical sprays and lotions applied directly to the skin. This lantern can protect everyone in area within 15 feet.
We use it most when we are sitting at the patio table, gardening, relaxing on the hammock, or playing on the playground. It is ideal to take with you while camping and at sporting events too.
There is no open flame but it does have a butane cartridge that is ignited and repeller mats that contain insect repellent. The butane heats the mats releasing allethrin. Each refill kit offers up to 12 hours of protection. Of course it is DEET free too.
With the dangers and annoyance of mosquitoes, a ThermaCELL Lantern or two is a great item to have on hand to protect you and your family. You can purchase one on the Thermacell website for $29 and on Amazon.com.
