Are you looking for a vacation getaway close to home? Look no further than Michigan. Michigan has a lot to offer from the Upper Peninsula known as the land “above the Bridge” linking the two peninsulas with beautiful beaches and authentic Cajun food to the northern Lower Peninsula that is full of dinosaurs. There is something for everyone in Michigan.
Our writer Beth visited Grand Haven with her family and had a fantastic “beach vacation” in Michigan a couple years back. I’ve been thinking about visiting and have a trip planned with a good friend of mine and her boys this Summer. It is trip that is less than 8 hours away but feels further! I recently checked out the book, Under the Radar Michigan for this review. I’m finding so many options, we want to visit it all!
Under the Radar Michigan: The First 50
is actually a composition of the 50+ episodes of the PBS Emmy Award winning show, Under the Radar Michigan. The show and the book talks about Michigan’s cool places, people, and things to do.
The book is broken down into cities with an overview of the destination, fun things to do, and why it is unique in Michigan. Instead of a normal travel guide, this book fills you in on what the area is known for and why.
The writers, Tom Daldin and Jim Edelman have visited over 400 Michigan-based businesses, places, and attractions all over Michigan. This book highlights the best from each city.
What I like about the book is that I can really get a good feel of what the great state of Michigan can offer with a quick read. After reviewing the book, we were able to narrow down our top choices for a mini-vacation this Summer.
There is so much to see and do in Michigan. With it so close, why not explore it for a few days this year and see what all the fuss is about.
