I have a feeling that KRE-O sets are going to be a huge hit this Christmas. KRE-O Transformers construction sets were just released this Summer by Hasbro. Your kids’ favorite Transformers characters will come to life as they build and rebuild each set with the Transformer’s vehicle and robot mode. KRE-O construction sets easily integrate with other brick building systems, so don’t worry if they get mixed up. Plus, KRE-O sets are affordable! We were able to review both the KRE-O Autobot Ratchet and KRE-O Mirage.
KRE-O Autobot Ratchet Review
The KRE-O Autobot Ratchet construction set contains 187 pieces for your child to construct both the Autobot Ratchet and his vehicle, the Ambulance. It also comes with 2 KREON figures, the Autobot Ratchet and Medic, stretcher, and fire axe accessories. My kids especially like construction sets with action figures, so this is a huge hit in our family. The Kreon figures can actually ride in the Ambulance in the front or back seat!
[slickr-flickr tag=hasbrokreo]This product doesn’t not convert like the “real” transformers, however it is lots of fun to have a construction set that can build 2 different things – both the Autobot Ratchet and Ambulance. It is like getting 2 toys in one!
This construction set is for kids ages 6 to 12. Obviously for the younger kids, they may need some help from mom and dad. My daughter, Elizabeth is almost 5. She likes to build right alongside her brother with all of his construction sets. We worked together on the KRE-O Autobot Ratchet.
The instructions are easy to follow with only 2-5 bricks to place on the toy for each step. It makes it easy to follow and not mess up! The bricks build very nicely together, comparable to the leading brands. To avoid frustration, I gave Elizabeth the larger pieces to place. She was proud that she could actually build this since it took a lot of time, patience, and work on her part. Although Elizabeth enjoyed building and playing this the set, we plan save this cool set for my son’s 7th birthday next month. I know he will be beyond thrilled and will be requesting more KRE-O for Christmas this year!

KRE-O Mirage Review
The KRE-O Mirage is one of the toughest fighting Transformers. Your kids will enjoy building the Mirage as both the robot and race car. The KRE-O Mirage construction set comes with 119 KRE-O construction pieces and 2 KREON figures – Mirage and Race Driver. You can even have Mirage or Race Driver KREON figure drive the race car!
[slickr-flickr tag=kreomirage2]The KRE-O Mirage doesn’t convert instantly like the Transformer Mirage, but you can build both the robot and the race car with this one set. It is like getting 2 toys in 1.
This set is also for ages 6 to 12. My almost-5-year-old daughter and I worked on this together. I was able to give her the larger pieces to place on the car. She was happy to follow instructions to build this cool car. Her favorite part was adding the wheels and seeing the bricks turn into a “real” car!
