We had no plans for Spring Break. My kids were beyond bored after a couple days…until we decided to make a last-minute trip to Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach is one of the closest beaches from Akron, Ohio with only a 9 hour drive. Check out these before and after pictures – 9 hours makes a HUGE difference!
I received accommodations to facilitate this post.
Closest Beach Vacation to Ohio and Where to Stay
We didn’t have plans for Spring Break. To top it off, my kids were still crying daily over their puppy that died 3 weeks ago – we have all been so, so sad about her terrible accident. Being at home makes it worse because it is so quiet without Roxy. 🙁 I decided to take a quick trip to the beach with my kiddos.
When I googled “closest beach to Ohio,” I found Virginia Beach at the top! Of course, why didn’t I think of that?! We stayed at Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront three years ago in the heat of Summer and had a fantastic time. Virginia Beach was warmer than an actual closer beach in New Jersey (8 hours) and there is a lot more to do in Virginia Beach for family entertainment!
Our first stop was the beach, as soon as we parked our car! My kids started digging in the sand and running away from the chasing waves. In the Summer, Virginia Beach is alive with sunbathers but in the Spring, it was a quieter beach with families, joggers, and walkers.
Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront
My husband had too much work to break free, so this was our first vacation with just me and my kids. I was glad to go back to a familiar place that I felt totally safe! I can’t tell you how excited the three of us were to see the Atlantic Ocean and sunny skies after the long, harsh Winter we’ve had in Ohio!
We stayed at the beautiful Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront, an ocean front hotel in Virginia Beach, VA. The entire hotel has been renovated since our last visit and is gorgeous inside and out!
Take a Tour of our Double Queen Suite:
Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront is the perfect place to stay in Virginia Beach, VA. It has everything you want and need for a beach vacation! The suites are spacious for families. The double queen suites includes two sleeping areas, a kitchenette, large bathroom, and balcony.

The first bedroom includes it’s own desk area with a large flat-screen TV. You can even close this area off with a sliding door. This is great for naps or for putting kids to bed while the adults stay up longer. We got a lot of use out of the kitchenette too. It included a large mini-fridge with freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and plenty of counter space and cabinets for snacks and light lunches.
Oh, the bathroom was gorgeous with modern features such as a double shower head and a vanity right out of a magazine!
The best part of any beach vacation is a good hotel, preferably right on the beach like the Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront. We were able to go to the beach whenever we wanted and as often as we wanted! Believe me, we lived on the beach! My kids love exploring! We found a variety of treasures on the beach, mostly shells and a really cool piece of drift wood. Virginia Beach does an excellent job keeping their beaches clear of debris, year-round.
Another must-have for any beach vacation is a FREE Wi-Fi, FREE parking, gym, and indoor pool. I enjoyed them all but my kids were most interested in the indoor pool and spa! I was really impressed at how well maintained and clean the entire hotel was, including the pool. As a mom, this is very important to me.
Another must-have for a beach vacation is free breakfast! I always enjoy free food, don’t you? Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront hotel offers a delicious hot breakfast to their guests every morning. While we were there, we enjoyed scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, sausage and gravy, waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, donuts, muffins, juices, coffee, and more. It’s the perfect start to the day. The dining room is ocean front with views of the beach and ocean – that was begging us to visit!
Virginia Beach has so much for families to do, just check out my Virginia Beach Travel reviews to see the ones we have enjoyed. One thing that sets Virginia Beach apart for many others is their amazing boardwalk. The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is 3 miles long. It is wide for walkers, skateboarders, joggers, and bicyclists. The 14th Street Fishing Pier is also accessible from the boardwalk for fishing, shopping, and dining. You can rent most anything you need or bring your equipment. My kids brought scooters and skateboards – it was the best idea ever!
The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is in front of 40 hotels, including Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront hotel with plenty to do on the way! There are many monuments and sculptures along the way for fun pictures, and even a playground on the beach with the colossal 34-foot tall King Neptune statue rising above it!
Whether you plan to spend the week or just a few days like us, there is so much to see and do for families in Virginia Beach. The place to stay with all the comforts at home – but with a balcony and oceanfront view is Comfort Inn and Suites Oceanfront by Choice Hotels.
