When you think of Las Vegas, you probably picture bright lights, iconic hotels, and non-stop energy. But what really caught my eye on our latest family trip was something towering above it all—The High Roller, North America’s tallest observation wheel at a jaw-dropping 550 feet!

Let me just be honest: Ferris wheels are not my favorite amusement park ride, I don’t like the feeling of dangling above while people get on and off. So, when I saw this massive wheel dominating the skyline, I had a little moment of panic. I even considered letting the girls ride it without me. My daughter’s friend tried to reassure me by sharing her experience on The Roue de Paris, which is only 200 feet tall. I pointed out, “That’s nothing compared to this one!”

But my daughter, knowing my love for adventure (and also knowing I almost never back down from a challenge), reminded me: “You ride all the coasters at Cedar Point—including GateKeeper!” (If you haven’t seen that ride, check out our GateKeeper video here). Plus, we had plans to go on the FlyLINQ zipline next, so I couldn’t chicken out on both! I took a deep breath, gave myself a pep talk, and decided to go for it.

And I’m so glad I did.

From the moment we stepped into the sleek, spacious cabin, all fear disappeared. It didn’t feel like a typical Ferris wheel at all—no swinging, no creaking, no “dangling” sensation. The entire ride was smooth and steady, almost like being in a floating lounge. We could walk around or sit, take in every angle of the city, and truly soak in the experience.

The Best Las Vegas Photo Op – No Question!

Let me tell you—this was hands down the best Las Vegas photo op. The view from the top is absolutely spectacular. You get a full 360-degree view of the Strip, the stunning Sphere, nearby mountains, and endless desert. Day or night, it’s an unbeatable scene for selfies, group shots, or just snapping unforgettable scenery.

Our ride wasn’t crowded, so we had plenty of space to roam around, strike a pose, and enjoy every second together. The vibe was fun, relaxed, and perfect for all ages. We had kids and older adults in our cabin—everyone was enjoying it!

If you’re traveling with family, planning a girls’ trip, or just want to experience something truly unique, the High Roller is the stop to make. Seriously, it’s the best Las Vegas photo op you’ll find.

Why I Recommend Vegas for Families

We love traveling out West and the best flights from Ohio are through Vegas.  We always been a couple days in Las Vegas for all our West-bound trips. I blog about Las Vegas for families often—because there’s so much more to this city than what you might expect. From hotel reviews, to thrilling shows like the Blue Man Group, to incredible family-friendly attractions like Omega Mart , there’s truly something for every age and interest.
