For kids, Pilgrim Hall offers a treasure hunt that helps guide children based on their age through the museum to learn the most. We searched for specific artifacts and pictures throughout the museum and discussed each item with our children. It kept them engaged. We were able to see many items like a sword, Bibles, the cradle of the baby born on the Mayflower, furniture, and clothing worn by the Pilgrims.
Although the pilgrims would have worn less decorated clothing, the clothing on display adequately represents that period of time’s clothing for the wealthier. One of our favorite items was a chest of Nathaniel Morton. This chest carried all the belongings to his family. I can’t imagine having such a small chest to fill for a new life in an unknown world. We asked our kids what they would bring, expecting them to say toys. Elizabeth said clothes and Elijah said food. That is about it!
The Pilgrim Hall Museum is located in downtown Plymouth, MA. It is a must-see while touring Plymouth. It is fascinating to see actual items that the pilgrims used and brought over on the Mayflower. It takes about 1-2 hours to tour.
