We’ve been to quite a few aquariums but none like the Ripley’s Aquarium! Ripley’s has a way of making everything seem extraordinary and it is exemplified at Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach! From live mermaids to a 330 ft moving path with sharks and stingrays swimming above and all around you – you’ll explore sea-life like never before!
Check out this life-sized replica of the jaw of a Carcharodon Megalodon – an ancestor of the Great White Shark! It was 8X larger than T-Rex!
I received tickets to facilitate this post.
Learn how fish swarm and get right in the middle of it with the pop up glass openings. Or, do like other places in the world that use swarms of fish to pick off dead skin from their bodies. Once you put your hand in the water, one or two fish will check out your hand, then tell their fish friends about the new feeding opportunity!
Even the layout and signage is unique only to Ripley’s Aquarium. Not only are the exhibits labeled with the kinds of fish in the exhibits but it also highlights fascinating and weird facts about those creatures.
For instance, check out this exhibit for Leafcutter Ants. The signage really draws you in as well as the various places the ants could be found working away!
It is hard to choose our favorite parts of Ripley’s Aquarium but it has to be the sharks! Where else can you pet a shark?! Sure, they are small and swim in the touch tank with the sting rays, but it is so cool! Walking beneath dangerous sharks, eels, and poisonous predators is breathtaking as well! There is a 330 foot moving path so all your attention can be on the being face to face with some of the Earth’s most dangerous predators!
We even got to pet sharks and sting rays at the touch tanks!
The Live Mermaids at Ripley’s Aquarium is also really, really cool.
My daughter especially liked them since she watches mermaid television shows and thinks mermaids are cool. That being said, the show was amazing for all. They were in a huge floor to ceiling tank with live swimming small sharks and sting rays – brave mermaids! After their show, we were able to meet them and get our photos taken with them too!
