Are you ready to experience the dark history San Francisco of 200 years ago?
If so, The San Francisco Dungeon is the place for you! I received admission to facilitate this post.
The San Francisco Dungeon is a walk-through tour that exposes the dark underbelly of San Francisco through a live-acting walk-through experience.
My family of 4 visited The San Francisco Dungeon and had a fantastic time. At first, my 8 year old daughter wasn’t sure if it would be too scary or not, as the beginning is meant to fright. We were assured that she would be fine once we got past the entry point and she was! (They were totally willing to refund if she wasn’t ok too.) In the beginning, you take a scary picture of yourself and at the end, you can get the print too.
This 1 hour walk-through experience takes you down elevators, through mirrored paths, through elaborate scenes, and even into Alcatraz!
It was very much audience interactive – I can assure you that I was glad not to be put on the chopping block, or on trial, although we all ended up in prison at Alcatraz!
The San Francisco Dungeon takes you on a historic journey of San Francisco 200 years ago, starting with the gold rush, then onto the lost mines with explosive dynamite, into the court where they like to “Give ’em a fair trial, and hang ’em high!”
Somewhere between Miss Piggott’s Saloon where a murderer was on the lose and Chinatown Plague Street, we all caught the plague! Yikes!
There is even an underground Shanghai Kelly’s Raft Ride that was freaky in the dark as we hoped not to get captured or shot at!
All throughout the tour, there are live actors. Our favorite was from The Ghosts of Alcatraz where we talked about the most dangerous military fugitives and some that may still haunt the cells…our prison guard has a haunting was of appearing and disappearing all over the room!
The San Francisco Dungeon is a must-see for anyone visiting San Francisco! It is a ton of scary fun and you’ll even learn something while there! The gift shop has fun mementos to remember your experience and prints of your photo from the beginning.
