My husband and I recently enjoyed a few days at this stunning resort, and we can’t wait to go back—this time with our teens! The Westin Kierland is a hidden gem among Arizona resorts, perfect for creating unforgettable family memories.

First off, The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa is a true desert oasis. 
Just picture waking up to breathtaking views of the Sonoran Desert right from your private patio or balcony. It was amazing, let me tell you!
The rooms are super comfy with their signature Heavenly Beds and all the amenities you could ask for, including pet-friendly options and high-speed internet. They offer a variety of suites too for larger families.
I loved how the resort perfectly combines the beauty of the desert with luxurious touches. The landscape is filled with vibrant desert flora, and we even spotted lovebirds in the orange trees and cute little lizards and bunnies darting around. It’s a beautiful, serene place that feels like a true escape from everyday life.
Splash into Fun at the Adventure Water Park
Now, let’s talk about the Adventure Water Park—this place is an absolute blast for both kids and adults! We had so much fun floating down the lazy river, zooming down the 110-foot waterslide, and trying out the Kierland FlowRider flow-board simulator. The kids at the resort were having the time of their lives, I can’t wait to go back with mine!
Both of the pools were well-kept, a great way to take in the Arizona sun during the day, and a relaxing place to unwind and relax after dinner.
You can also rent a poolside cabana which would be perfect for families to rest out of the sun for a while with a tv, misters, and beverages.
The pools are surrounded by beautiful desert landscaping, and there’s so much life around you. There are also daily activities for both kids and adults – see below.
Delicious Dining for Every Taste
One of the highlights of our stay was definitely the food. The Westin Kierland offers a variety of dining options that are sure to please everyone in the family. We loved the casual vibes at J. Swilling’s Poolside Bar & Grill, where we enjoyed salads, sandwiches, and snacks right by the pool. If you’re into fine spirits, you have to check out Waltz & Weiser Whiskey Bar and Cantina—perfect for a relaxing evening while the kids are entertained.
For a quick and delicious coffee break, Coffee Flats Coffee House was our go-to spot. They serve Starbucks coffee, pastries, and hot breakfast sandwiches that kept us fueled for our adventures. The resort also features more upscale dining options like deseo, where you can savor exquisite Latin American cuisine.
Activities Galore for All Ages
The Westin Kierland is packed with activities to entertain the whole family. If you have golf enthusiasts in the family, they will be thrilled with the award-winning Westin Kierland Golf Club. The lush green fairways are great for playing and provide a beautiful backdrop for the resort.
We didn’t have time to try the Agave, The Arizona Spa & Salon, but it’s definitely on our list for next time. The spa offers treatments inspired by Arizona’s native cultures and global healing traditions—perfect for a little mom-time relaxation.
The resort’s location is also ideal for exploring nearby attractions. The OdySea Aquarium, with its unique experiences like SeaTrek Helmet Diving and a shark tour, is just a short drive away. The Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter are right next door, you’ll have plenty of shopping and dining options. We enjoyed walking to this location several times during our stay.
Don’t miss the Superstition Mountains for a perfect day trip from Scottsdale. Just east of Phoenix, this stunning range rises dramatically from the desert floor, casting eerie shadows that hold mysterious tales that your kids will get a kick out of. Just so you know, I did not find the hidden gold!
