You imagine it so clearly, it was probably something like a beachy breeze, kids playing quietly in the sand, you glowing in golden-hour selfies like you’ve finally figured out how to do life. Maybe you even pictured your family going yachting, honestly, what’s not to love there? But then reality hits: someone’s got sunscreen in their eyes, your toddler’s asking for snacks before breakfast, and the only glow you’ve got is from sweating due to this humidity.

So, how do you still look like the effortlessly chill parent you were hoping to channel when your actual vibe is more “where did I put the wipes?” Somehow, mommy bloggers and mommy influencers have a way of making it all look so effortless, right? How do they do it? What’s their secret?

The Secret is in the Throw-on-and-Go

For starters, this is not the time for tight denim or structured tops that require a strapless bra and a prayer. You need clothes that move with you, not against you. Basically, the kind that don’t show every spill and still somehow make you feel like you tried, without actually trying. You can just go on Pinterest and you’ll see some great ideas. For example, loose tops, loose linen pants, maxi boho dresses, basically, things that are loose-fitting.

You want something that’s floaty and forgiving. You want something that you can just throw on, so that you can slip into sandals, sunglasses, a floppy hat, and quite literally look put-together in a matter of minutes. And yeah, this way, no one will know what little sleep you’ve gotten.

You Can have Vacation Vibes without Losing Yourself

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of just surviving the trip, especially when your luggage is 80% baby gear and the idea of “me time” is getting to eat a full granola bar without sharing. But what you wear can actually help you feel a little more yourself again. You don’t need a whole suitcase full of trends or curated outfits. Just a few reliable go-tos that make you feel like you didn’t completely vanish into parent mode.

The hair was mentioned (except for a floppy hat), but having a hair claw or a loose braid can do the trick. If your kids don’t pull on your jewelry, then that can even be an option too, because again, it makes you look put together even if you don’t feel like it. Oh, and maybe a cute beach bag, or a summer straw bag in general (that could maybe double as the diaper bag for the day) could help as well.

One Less Thing to Overthink

The best part about having a few vacation outfits on autopilot? Well, you can save your brain power for more important things, like navigating the local breakfast scene or remembering who packed the swim diapers.

So yeah, maybe you’re running on snacks (and who knows, maybe a tad bit of sarcasm as well), but that doesn’t mean you can’t feel pulled together. You’re still showing up, still making the memories, and still looking pretty good doing it. And seriously, here, that’s what your family will remember.
