You can’t go to Florida without visiting an alligator farm. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is one of Florida’s oldest continuously running attractions since 1893. They know what travelers and locals want – opportunities to see alligators in many ways! Not only do they have live alligator feedings and training demos but you can walk about the swamp bridge and feed them yourself!
Feed the Alligators at St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
Yes, you can feed the Alligators at St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park and it’s so much fun! Be sure to bring plenty of quarters with you to purchase alligator kibble to throw over to the alligators. When we started walking on the wooden pathway, we were just so excited to see so many alligators! Then my daughter spotted the kibble machines and started throwing it into the water. Before the alligators were sleepy and motionless but as soon as Elizabeth started feeding them, they came to life!
This was just a really fun surprise we had at the alligator farm! We never thought we would feed an alligator!
Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, FL
If you love alligators like me, you’ll really enjoy this alligator farm in St. Augustine, Florida! It’s more than just an alligator farm, it is a zoo with many additional animals but everyone knows that the alligators are the stars! This is the main area where they have the feedings. We weren’t there at the time of the feeding but saw it on our last visit and it was amazing! We just love seeing the alligators both on land and in the water and seeing how they interact with one another. They also have many wildlife shows throughout the day with live feeding and animal training demos of alligators, hands-on at Florida’s Forest Friends theater, reptile shows, and rainforest parrots and friends show. When we visited a few years ago, they were excited to announce that they had an albino alligator coming from Pittsburg, I believe. Now, there are several of these beautiful and rare creatures! If you have young ones, they will love getting a picture on a life-like alligator too. There is even a building that is dedicated to the fame of alligators from alligator hunters to the movies.
St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
As I said, St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is more than a Florida alligator farm, it is also home to many other animals, including the crocodiles shown below.
All of the enclosures and throughout the zoo, it’s just gorgeous with lush Florida vegetation too. It is a well-cared-for zoo that is a joy to walk through. The lemur exhibit was one of our favorites. I’ve never seen more active lemurs at any zoo we’ve visited. They were very playful and seemed very happy in their habitat. I was delighted to see Galapagos Tortoise too, something hard to find at local zoos. This zoo is all about encounters too! https://www.alligatorfarm.com/animal-encounters/ If you love sloths, you’ll want to look into their Rainforest Sloth Encounter where you can bet a behind-the-scenes tour of the park and go behind the glass for an up-close animal experience where you can touch and feed a sloth! If you have a Galapagos Tortoise fan, you’ll want to check out that encounter too where you can feel what a 100-year old tortoises sheel feels like! Take your own pictures of upgrade to the photo experience. They even have an upclose encounter with a saltwater crocodile where you can join the zookeeper on teh feeding platform to get an up-close view of a feeding session! As birders, we were thrilled to see so many native Florida birds that call the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park home. The zoo provides the perfect habitat for these birds so they naturally come to the zoo to nest while we can get a wonderful view of them! You’ll also find exotic birds from around the globe in enclosures. The zoo is also home to sloths, saltie reptiles, and other Florida native reptiles.
