Best Lodging in St. Augustine for Families: St. Francis Inn Bed & Breakfast

St Francis Inn Review St Augustine bed and breakfast

Besides choosing your vacation destination, the most important decision you’ll make is where you’ll call home away from home. When you find the right place, you’ll never want to leave. If you get the wrong place, everyone is cranky.

While visiting the nation’s oldest city, why not stay at the city’s oldest inn, St. Francis Inn. Beyond their comfortable accommodations, their amenities will wow and pamper your family like they did us!

My family loved staying at St Francis Inn Bed and Breakfast . The spacious 3 room suite, lush gardens, gourmet breakfast & evening snacks and desserts, and quiet location in St. Augustine’s historic district gave us a remarkable family vacation.

If you haven’t stayed at a bed and breakfast with your family before, you don’t know what you are missing. B&Bs are not just for couples – although St. Francis Inn makes a perfect romantic retreat and even honeymoon destination, they have several suites that are just perfect for families. Their generous amenities are perfect for families with kids of all ages. The Inn is more of a home away from home than just a place to sleep.

We loved dining in the courtyard surrounded by tropical Florida gardens and an historic fish pond. It gave us place to really slow down as a family and even make new friends.

Some hotels provide breakfast in the morning, St. Francis Inn provides a gourmet breakfast with at least two homemade entrees, fruit or even fruit soup (their strawberry soup is superb!), fresh bakery, homemade granola, cereals, juices, and coffee. It’s quite the spread!!

Breakfast, evening social hour appetizers, and nightly desserts and s’mores over a fire pit are all complimentary and served in the dining room. There was always an amazing selection and had my kids up and ready every morning in anticipation for breakfast and back from our day for dessert at night!

There is another dining room located in a separate building near the pool if you want a little space of your own. We often ate in the courtyard because it was such a gorgeous location – shaded and cool even in the heat of the day. You can also take a tray to your room.

In the afternoon and evening, you can find complimentary snacks, gourmet coffee stand, and drinks. The historic sitting room is a great place to enjoy coffee while playing board or card games together. My daughter and I spent a rainy afternoon sipping sweet tea, eating fresh-baked snickerdoodle cookies and playing cards in this lovely room. I cherish the one-on-one time we got to spend together here, something you don’t get at traditional hotel accommodations.

So, St. Francis Inn is not all about the food but as a mom, I really appreciated the delicious foods we were able to enjoy without the hassle of running out to a restaurant in the morning.   The evening social hour tied us over until dinner and nightly desserts were just, well, a really nice treat to have on vacation! The variety of foods were just perfect for families too. Nobody will go hungry there! We enjoyed the family atmosphere at St. Francis Inn and made several friends including families and couples. It is a really friendly atmosphere with Southern charm. The temperature controlled pool was also a hit at 80°F warm.  We enjoyed relaxing afternoons and evenings in the warm pool together.  It is a quiet, private area that adds to the comfort and relaxation.

The property goes on and on with tropical oases around every corner. We just loved it there! A perk of staying at St. Francis Inn is that you also get complimentary access to their beach property!  You can set up to spend the day at St. Augustine Beach with St. Francis Inn providing beach chairs, beach towels, showers, and other comforts for a lazy day at the beach.

Another perk is free tickets at St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum and discounted tickets to the Oldest House museum.

This quiet sitting area is right off of the pool, a great place to reconnect with your spouse while kids swim within viewing distance.

St. Francis Inn is the oldest inn in St. Augustine, dating back to 1791. Staying at such a property with such ambiance elevates such a vacation. You know you will be treated well since it is proud to be recognized on the Select Registry of Distinguished Inns of North America.

St. Francis Inn has several rooms and suites, they also have a home built in the 1800’s across the street with suites and private balconies and porches. We stayed in the Wilson House pictured below. The 1894 House is an apartment-style lodging located just a few blocks away. Everyone staying with St. Francis Inn is welcome to enjoy their gourmet breakfasts, social hours, desserts, and other amenities. St Francis Inn Review St Augustine bed and breakfast
