Experience an Old Fashioned Christmas at Roscoe Village

Enjoy an old fashioned Christmas this year at historic Roscoe Village. Step back into time to a simpler time of the 1830’s where Christmas was less about gifts and more about festive, religious celebrations with family and friends. Take a short drive to Coshocton, Ohio this season to experience an old fashion Christmas with their annual Candlelighting Celebration at Historic Roscoe Village.

Roscoe Village Candlelighting Celebration

The Roscoe Village Candlelighting Celebration is a FREE event on Saturdays December 2 and 9, 2017. Enjoy Christmas carols by a choir, recitation of a Christmas story by a special guest storyteller, lighting of a 30-foot Christmas tree, and more. Once the Christmas tree is lit, the Honorary Candle lighter lights his/her candle and passes it to one person in the crowd. Once everyone’s candles are lit, everyone will sing Silent Night.

The Candlelighting Celebration starts at 6pm at the main stage area in the village but be sure to arrive early to stroll down the seasonally decorated Whitewoman Street. Get an early start on Christmas shopping at one of the gift shops where you’ll find unique gifts for everyone.

Enjoy dinner at one of several restaurants in Roscoe Village. I suggest Warehouse Steak n’ Stein Restaurant, located right in the middle of Roscoe Village where you’ll enjoy dining in a historic 1837 building that use to be a warehouse for canal cargo and post office. Be sure to order their legendary onion rings.

During your visit to Roscoe Village, don’t be surprised to run into Christmas carolers spreading Christmas cheer along the way. There will also be free hot mulled cider and cookies available before the ceremony, near the center of the village.

Roscoe Village Christmas Lantern Tour

A special Roscoe Village Christmas lantern tour is being offered at the end of both Candlelighting ceremonies on December 2 and 9th. Experience 1830s holiday traditions and treats as you learn how Christmas was celebrated in the 1800s. The tour guide will talk about ethnic and food traditions, what Christmas was like in school and where Santa Claus came from. Each guest will receive a traditional card of the day plus a few holiday treats.

If interested, RSVP in advance and meet at the Visitor Center at 7:00pm. Contact the Roscoe Village Visitor Center at 800-877-1830 or 740-622-7644.
