Crooked River Adventures Kent State Review
Crooked River Adventures Kent State offers trips along the Cuyahoga River to three destinations in a variety of vehicles, all providing return shuttle to the starting point of Tannery Park. The routes are easy to navigate with no strong rapids but plenty of beautiful views, wildlife (we saw plenty of duck and ducklings), and fun for all ages.
For beginners, I recommend the Cuyahoga River Trip from Tannery Park to Middlebury Takeout, it is a 2 mile trip that takes about 1 hour to complete.
We took the Cuyahoga River Trip from Tannery Park which s a 4.5 mile trip that took about 2 hours. This was the perfect option for my family. We have two kids, ages 9 and 11. It was the perfect amount of exercise and fun. Nobody got too tired and nobody was bored the entire trip. We had a great time, made plenty of memories, and everyone is enjoying retelling about our adventure with friends and family, especially making fun of my paddling skills – or lack thereof. ha!
There is a third trip from Tannery Park to Waterworks Park that takes 2.5-3 hours and is 6.5 miles long.
The tubing trip looks like so much fun on a hot summer day, offered from Tannery Park to Middlebury Bridge at 10:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays this summer.
You can even take stand up paddle boarding and kayaking instructional courses on Mogadore Reservoir and the Cuyahoga River.
Each trip starts with a quick 30 minute safety briefing with video and live demos. This is great for newbies as well as seasoned boaters because they offer instructions as well as details on the river and what to watch for along the way. Everyone is required to wear a provided life jacket.
The instructor, a Kent State student, will show you how to properly paddle on the kayak and canoe as well as how to steer and avoid strainers. The 2 hour tour needs at Munroe Falls Brust Park right after the old Munroe Falls dam, which was a little tricky to navigate but a fun way to end the trip.
My kids are ages 9 and 11 and were able to paddle and navigate the entire time. Younger kids would do well with an adult with them as well. If you choose to kayak, there are double kayaks available for parents to ride with younger kids.
