Escape to a balmy 82° tropical Caribbean getaway with just a short drive to Castaway Bay in Sandusky, Ohio! Once you step through the doors, you’ll be greeted by an alluring island paradise with a Caribbean theme throughout the waterpark, arcade, hotel, stores, and dining. Around every corner is a palm tree, hut, and other decor that makes you feel miles away from the norm.
I received admission to facilitate this post.
We were able to meet up with friends this Spring and had an unforgettable time. If you have the chance to visit Castaway Bay with extended family or friends, do it. Castaway Bay is even more exciting as a group getaway!
Castaway Bay waterpark is the perfect size and set-up for family fun and adventure! The 38,000 square foot, 5-story indoor waterpark is set in a Caribbean theme with an enormous wave pool, Rendezvous Run water coaster, tube slides, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, pools, toddler areas, and Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse with a multi-level structure with a giant bucket dump, slides, and water features.
Cargo Crossing is always a hit as kids try to balance on the cargo floating in the water while using the ropes above!
We always relax in the indoor/outdoor hot tub at the end of every visit to the waterpark. It feels amazing to soak in the hot water, especially outside when it is cold outside!
If you have toddlers, you’ll love the toddler area in addition to the other attractions. It is sized just right for them. Notice the life guards are even in this shallow area. I just love the life guards with all Cedar Fair properties. They are trained with the Ellis & Associates National Pool & Waterpark Lifeguard Training Program, which is the best available. They are top notch life guards!
It is hard to pick our favorite parts of Castaway Bay but we spend the most time in the 100,000 gallon wave pool body surfing on the 3 foot tall waves!
We spend a lot of time at Creature Cove too. This is a large pool with a basketball area for shoot hoops and large floating snakes, dolphins, and turtles to climb and ride.
Now that my kids are getting older, the water slides are a huge hit at Castaway Bay! There are several tube slides to choose from that actually wrap around to the outside of the building – no worries as they are covered tube slides! There are 4 additional slides at Lookout Lagoon Family Fun house too. The lines were very short during our visit, so we were able to ride as many water slides as we wanted!
Be sure to carve out time to stop by the 6,000 sq ft. Crabbie’s Quarterdeck Arcade where you’ll find all the latest arcade video games, basketball, air hockey and ticket redemption games. There are plenty of opportunities to win cool prizes too! The arcade makes a nice break from swimming or evening activity.
Speaking of activities, Castaway Bay has an entire line up of daily activities at Club Castaway and Camp Castaway. We love watching a Peanuts movie with story time with Snoopy every evening. During the days there are crafts and activities too.
You don’t have to leave Castaway Bay for anything, including dining! In fact, you don’t even have to leave the waterpark to eat. Big Daddy’s Snack Shack offers snacks, pizza, wings, and more in the waterpark. Enjoy a full breakfast buffet at Mango Mike’s each morning. Or, stop by Ebb & Eddy’s for drinks (with unlimited soda refills), snacks, ice cream, and sweets any time of day. There is also room service for meals and snacks delivered right to your room.
For dinner or a late evening snack, we head over to the attached Quaker Steak & Lube!
I love that it is attached, so our kids even visited in pjs and robes for an even snack of wings, nachos, and dessert! We had a fabulous time. Nothing says vacation like delicious treats like this!
Castaway Bay offers hotel rooms and suites for any size family from the traditional Starfish room with 2 double beds to combination suties that sleep 8 and everything in between. We were able to stay in the Tarpon Suite during our stay.
The Tarpon Suite sleeps up to 6 people with 1 king size bed and 2 sets of bunk beds. It was the perfect size for us because all 4 kids had their own bunk bed – in a semi-private room with their own tv.
Take a tour with us!
As you can see, it was very spacious with plenty of room for the 6 of us including double sinks and a huge walk-in closet.
Us adults could relax near in the larger portion of the room with a king size bed and view of the bay.
While visiting Castaway Bay, I suggested staying a minimum of 2 nights and 3 days to fully enjoy the waterpark and all they offer. If you can stay longer, you’ll enjoy it even more! There is just so much to see and do.For Spring Break, you can book online or call 419-627-2106 to book your stay or day passes.
