Maui Sands Indoor Waterpark Has Fun For Every Member of the Family

My girls, Grace and Claire, were so excited when they found out we were going to Maui Sands Indoor Waterpark a few weekends ago. When we got there and they saw everything that Maui Sands had to offer they were even more excited and couldn’t wait to get in their swim suits and go play, my husband and I were right there with them! As soon as we checked in, and got something in our tummies, we headed down to the waterpark.

The Lazy River was a huge hit in our family, especially since both of our daughters could touch the bottom easily, which gave my non-swimmers, a boost of confidence.

Get Wet and Wild at Maui Sands Waterpark in Sandusky

We have all been dying to get out of the house and go play somewhere this winter, and Maui Sands was the perfect place for our family of 4 (soon to be 5)! Both of my daughters are not quite old enough, or brave enough for the really big slides. However, my husband was able to convince my 6 year old, Grace, to go down the Maui Wowie Bowl Slide in a double inner tube with him. Which resulted in a ton of fun for both of them, as well as a funny story in which she fell out of the inner tube at the bottom of the slide when it came into the large pool. She couldn’t stop talking about it and it was absolutely her favorite part of that day. She felt like such a big kid!

Claire’s favorite part of the waterpark was the “kiddie pool” also known as Pineapple Bay. It’s a zero depth pool that is great for wading little ones with a great water slide perfect for toddlers and younger children. Claire is 4 and airs on the side of caution so she loved being able to independently go down the slide on her own and “swim” in the water without the assistance of a life jacket or mommy.

Eventually Claire warmed up to the awesome MakaMaka Treehouse, with a huge bucket dump, water cannons, and 2 enclosed slides, as well as, side by side racing slides for young children and older ones alike. My husband was even able to race along side her a few times, which she and Grace both couldn’t get enough of.

Stay and Play in One Place

Maui Sands Indoor Waterpark is great for a day trip or an overnight stay. You really have no need to even leave, once you are in the waterpark area, you can order drinks from inside the waterpark at a walk up bar, or can get snacks from Volcano Grill and bring them into the park to one of the many tables on either the first or second level.

As all parents, we were happy to see that there were multiple life guards watching each separate swimming and playing area keeping everyone in the park safe and having a great time. Life jackets are available for children who are unable to swim on their own safely as well.

Unfortunately for me, because I am pregnant, I was unable to enjoy some of the features of the waterpark, like the hot tub and water slides, however, the Kai River was a great way for me to relax and enjoy time with my family, and it was something we all participated in more times than I can count. Any time that my kids or husband got a bit cold or just wanted to relax, they all headed to the hot tub, which was huge and had tons of space for everyone.

Top Left: Kana-torm and Hana Half Pipe slides come rushing onto the second level of the waterpark. Top Right: Volcano Grill is great for a pick me up snack or to grab a pizza for lunch! Bottom Left: Coconut Cove's Water Walk Crossing is great for testing your balance and the Cove also features a large swimming pool equipped with basketball hoops and a separated whirpool area! Bottom Right: Looking for a quick drink to quench your thirst, order anything from water to adult beverages at the walk up bar within the waterpark.

The Kana-torm and Hana Half Pipe are incredibly fast body slides with tons of twists and turns they are great for fun loving adults and older kids and teens, along with the other large slides the park has to offer. Hammerhead Plunge is a tube slide that can reach speeds from 35-45 miles per hour, great for that member of the family with the need for speed!
