Gotcha Laser Tag!
This was our first year to experience Gotcha Laser Tag! What an exciting addition to Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center. This is an outside activity where you are suited up in laser jackets, head gear, and laser guns. We played with just our family of 4 – boys against girls.
You can shoot as many times as you want while hiding behind large, soft inflatables or the trees. We ran all around hiding, shooting, and acting all spy-like! It felt really like we were spies with the Mission Impossible soundtrack playing! We all had a great time playing together. I’d do this again in a heart beat! Although Elizabeth and I got quite a few shots in of our own, the boys won this round.
Fort aMAZE’n!
We had the most fun at Fort aMAZE’n! than ever before. My kids are starting to get a little older and enjoy challenging one another.
We split up into 2 teams – boys and against girls and tried to get through the giant maze challenge. Throughout the maze are 4 stops with the letters M-A-Z-E. The goal is to find each spot and hole punch your maze card. If you do it in 2 minutes, you earn a prize. We took about 20 minutes but at least we all 4 finished. If you ever get stuck, the staff is always willing to help. Those not participating can watch from the platform above – it looks like rats in a maze from on top. I have to admit that I did quite a bit of bragging with my daughter and I found the first 2 letters…only to get it all back and more from my son when they ended up finishing first. See my bragging son in the picture below.
It is a fun challenge that my whole family enjoyed doing together!
War of 18Holes Miniature Golf
The War of 18Holes Miniature Golf offers 18 fun holes of miniature golf in addition to beautiful gardening and educational tidbits about the War of 1812 at each station. My kids do not have a long enough attention span to play all 18 holes, however, they love exploring! Each hole is a challenge and surrounded by flowing water (my kids fave), a waterfall cave, covered bridge, and winding paths. It is nicely done and taken care of.
The Rock Wall
Perry’s Cave Rock Wall is 25 feet tall. If you are in a group, race to the top and ring the bell. The first one there wins! For us, we focused on trying to get to the top! There are 4 sides of the wall with 2 fairly easy and the other 2 more difficult. Both my kids were able to make it to the top, with encouragement. They were so proud of themselves!
The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay
The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay was an even more welcomed treat during this visit because it was a cold day outside but warm in the Butterfly House! 🙂 The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay is the 4,000 sq ft home to more than 40 different types of exotic butterflies. It is beautifully landscaped with butterfly loving plants and flowers. There are plenty of seating areas throughout to sit back and relax. You’ll be amazed at the hundreds of butterflies fluttering around – about 800-1,000!
We were in for a treat since it was time to release the newly developed butterflies from their nursery. We were able to help free the butterflies into the aviary. It was so neat!
Perry’s Cave
We always take a tour of Perry’s Cave when visiting Put-in-Bay. Our whole family is fascinated by caves.
To be able to walk down 52 feet into the cave is incredible! Then, to walk through the 208 foot long cave is even more remarkable. The tour is about 20 minutes long. It is an educational and informative tour with plenty of comical relief and corny jokes spread throughout. There is plenty of time to ask questions throughout, the guides are always knowledgeable and willing to answer any question – even from kids. It is 50 degrees year round, so a jacket is recommended – or just enjoy nature’s air conditioning on hot days!
