There is so much history to recognize at Put-in-Bay. Standing tall at 352 feet is Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial. This monument honors those that fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
You can actually go all the way to the top for amazing views 352 feet over Lake Erie and Put-in-Bay island. Don’t worry, you don’t have to climb to the top! There is a short staircase to the elevator!
On a clear day, you can actually see Canada! Our kids were amazed that they could see another country from Put-in-Bay! It was an excellent time to remind them of the long-lasting peace that the USA has with Canada. Did you know that 5 miles into Lake Erie is the longest undefended border in the world?
Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is a must-see for any visitor to the island. If you have small children, don’t worry about them falling off the top because there is a very thick, fairly tall wall all around the top. It makes those of us with a little fear of heights feel safer too as you cannot see straight down to the ground – just out to the beautiful vistas.
And what a gorgeous place to take pictures with your loved ones. We visited Put-in-Bay with our long time friends. Aren’t they gorgeous?
My kids and I make a nice picture too.
If you want a bird’s eye view of the island, this is the only place for it! Below, you can see the majority of the restaurants and shopping in Put-in-Bay as well as the harbor. If you look closely, you’ll see The Boardwalk, one of our favorite lake-front restaurants!
The entrance fee is just $5 for ages 16+. Kids 15 and under are free- with an adult, of course. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center and gift store too where you’ll find one-of-a-kind National Park gifts and an amazing display of a reenactment of the Battle of Lake Erie.
