This summer, my daughter and her friends wanted to mix things up with an adventure outside Ohio, so we set our sights on Kennywood Amusement Park in Pennsylvania.
Watch as they rank the rides they road at Kennywood!
Located less than two hours from home, it felt like a whole new world. Kennywood, known as one of America’s finest traditional amusement parks, has been delivering thrills and family fun for over 125 years. This trip wasn’t our first visit, but each time we go, it feels like we’re stepping into a place where the past and present collide in the best way possible.

Nostalgic Vibes Meet Thrilling Rides
Kennywood’s charm lies in its ability to balance nostalgia with modern excitement.

My daughter’s friend, who had the chance to visit Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, said Kennywood gave off similar vibes. It’s easy to see why. With its historic rides like the Jack Rabbit, which has been thrilling riders for over a century, to more modern additions like Phantom’s Revenge (can’t miss!), there’s something for everyone.

The girls loved the park’s mix of classic and contemporary attractions, from the dizzying spins of The Exterminator to the surprising thrills of the wooden Jack Rabbit coaster.
We didn’t even getting soaked on the Pittsburg Plunge!
Fun for All Ages – Every Time We Visit
Over the years, we’ve experienced Kennywood in different ways – as a family with younger kids, with extended family, and now with a group of teenagers. No matter the occasion, Kennywood delivers. Whether you’re cooling off on the Pittsburg Plunge or enjoying a more relaxed ride on the Merry-Go-Round, the park caters to all ages. And let’s not forget Kiddieland, where little ones can enjoy rides like Lil’ Phantom and Thomas & Friends™ attractions.
Treats
Kennywood is more than just thrilling rides and nostalgic charm; it’s also a paradise for food lovers. We couldn’t resist the indulgent chocolate-covered cheesecake and refreshing ICEEs, perfect treats for a day packed with excitement.

And what’s a visit to an amusement park without bringing home a keepsake? Picking out a unique souvenir is a fun way to remember the day, no matter your age. Whether it’s a quirky T-shirt, a plush toy, or a classic Kennywood memorabilia, you’ll find something special to commemorate your visit and the good old-fashioned fun you had.

A Day Trip or a Weekend Getaway?
While Kennywood is perfect for a day trip, there’s so much more to explore in Pittsburgh that you might want to extend your stay. From the Heinz History Center and Pittsburgh Zoo to PNC Park and the National Aviary, Pittsburgh is a fantastic destination for a weekend getaway. We often link our Kennywood visits with these attractions, making the most out of our trips to Pennsylvania.
More to Come: Halloween and Holiday Events
Even though summer is winding down, the excitement at Kennywood is far from over. The girls are already talking about their next visit for the park’s Halloween Frights & Holiday Delights. Kennywood transforms completely in the fall and winter, offering family-friendly fun during Phantom Fall Fest and magical experiences during Holiday Lights, which features over two million twinkling lights.
If you’re looking for a fun and easy trip from Ohio, I can’t recommend Kennywood enough. Plan your visit before the summer ends, or mark your calendars for their fall and winter events – it’s closer than you think, and always worth the trip!
