Waterman’s Seafood Restaurant in Virginia Beach Oceanfront Review
You’ll find people in both shorts and nice summer dresses. The lighting is romantic with soft lighting while the atmosphere is busy with 80’s music excitedly playing. The use of rich metal hues, dark wood tables, and large palm leaf fans make it both inviting and relaxing. Whether you choose to sit outside on the patio or indoors, every seat at Waterman’s is oceanfont. With tiered floors, there isn’t a bad seat in the restaurant.

On a Friday night, Waterman’s was packed but the short 30 minute wait went quickly as we browsed their gift shop. My daughter, a total girly-girl was in heaven trying on beautiful jewelry. The store is made up of unique, hand-made items that are made in the USA. Sprinkled throughout, you will also find fair trade items from across the globe.
My family of 4 enjoyed booth seating on the second level, overlooking the beautiful Atlantic ocean and beach. We had both young families and dating couples surrounding us, all taking in the beautiful scenery and enjoying the delicious foods.
Waterman’s is a family-owned restaurant since 1981. They offer sustainable seafood daily with menu items marked as such.
Waterman’s Original Pasta
My husband enjoyed the Waterman’s Original Pasta which comprises of shrimp, scallops, and andouille sausage sauteed with peppers and onions in a Cajun cream sauce. It is served with cavatappi pasta.

This hearty dish was enjoyed not only by my husband but also my son who likes things a little spicey! My husband enjoyed it so much that he joked that he wish he had a spoon so he could finish the leftover sauce. The seafood was delicious without being overpowering with the perfect temperature and
Waterman’s Catch of the Day
I don’t often order fish at restaurants. Of course dining in Virginia Beach, I did want to try seafood. I was tempted to go for the fried platter with my favorites, including shrimp. I decided to try the Waterman’s Catch of the Day when Kelly presented it to us. It was a mau mau fish stuffed with spinach, artichoke hearts, Parmesan cheese, and crumbled crab meat. On top was a white wine and butter sauce.

Let me tell you this, I have never enjoyed fish from anywhere more than I did at Waterman’s! It was simply divine. The flavors were in perfect harmony, I enjoyed bite after bite. So did my family as they sampled it. It was a hearty dish too, plenty to satisfy any hunger. On the side, I enjoyed creamy, flavorful Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, and a vegetable medley of freshly grilled asparagus, zucchini, squash and onion . I cleared my plate, everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection.
Waterman’s offers a varied menu for every taste including hearty salads, seafood, pasta, ribs, chicken, steaks, burgers, sandwiches, and fish tacos. There is even 13 item kids menu. There is a full Sunday Brunch menu served from 9am – 2pm as well.
Waterman’s Kids Menu
Eating with kids in Virginia Beach couldn’t be easier at Waterman’s. Our waitress, Kelly was excellent with a friendly attitude and helpful with kids. Their kids menu includes 13 items from crabcake plates to PBJ. If your kids want to experiment with seafood, they can choose from fish tacos, flounder strips, and crab-cakes. Other items include sirloin steak, grilled chicken, and a power meal of veggies, fruit, and peanut butter. The typical kids menu of burgers, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, and pasta are also available.

Our kids know that when we travel, they are expected to try something new that is the fare of the city. They both chose fish tacos, as it was a familiar dish that I serve at home. My 7 year old son gobbled up his but my daughter decided it wasn’t her fave. She filled up on the sides of mashed potatoes, fruit bowl, and part my meal.
