I love celebrations! I love any excuse to give gifts. Maybe I am a little crazy. When I first moved to Ohio and heard about Sweetest Day, I thought it was silly and a little nutty. After living here a little while I though to myself, when is a good time to celebrate caring for others? Well any time is of course!
History Of Sweetest Day
On October 8, 1922 was the first Sweetest Day. The Cleveland Plain Dealer released their October 8, 1922 edition which informed everyone that the first Sweetest Day was planned by a committee of 12 confectioners. That year the committee distributed boxes of candy. The candy was given to “newsboys, orphans, old folks and the poor.
When is Sweetest Day?
Sweetest Day falls on the 3rd Saturday of October. This year it will be October 18th. THIS WEEKEND!

How is Sweetest Day Celebrated?
Now lovers, friends and family give each other candies, flowers or cards. Similar to Valentine’s Day but I feel like it’s more intended to celebrate and show you care for many (including those less fortunate) not just your spouse or partner.
How I Plan on Celebrating
I plan on giving cards and small candies to my family. I am going to add a little gift to our mailbox for our mailman and share a little gift with our neighbors. I would love to also do something to honor the original idea behind sweetest day. Any one have any ideas?
