Plan Recipes in your Calendar According to this In Season Fruit Chart

Everything is growing in my yard! Tomatoes are ripening, the blackberries at the edge of the woods are starting to turn pink, and of course the grocery stores have sales! Its easy to come up with the right recipes in the summer, but, honestly, how can you be creative and economical regarding pies and other fruit recipes in other seasons?

I came across this handy chart over at Chasing Delicious (blog no longer online as of 2025). It helps you figure out whats in season- and at likely its lowest price, any month of the year. Although this chart is for Texas, for many of us in Ohio who buy from the grocery store, it still remains true for that pricing will be less during the months the items are in season if that’s where we are getting said produce.

How you can use this chart right now

So, here is my idea to take action for 3 short minutes:

Grab your paper calendar, or your phone calendar, and, with your favorite fruit recipes in mind, mark down dates that you think it might be economical to make your favorite fruit recipe- and identify it by the name of that recipe- and the in season fruit. If you are buying from local farms, some items may not be in season year-round like bananas if you are Ohio! If you are going to the grocery store that imports, then you are set. For example, plan your favorite coconut bars or cream pie for the week after Thanksgiving!
