Shaw JCC in West Akron
The Shaw Jewish Community Center is a wonderful gym – it offers everything from swim teams, to basketball leagues for kids. I belonged to the Shaw JCC before I had children (you do not have to be Jewish). Their Sports and Recreation Calendar gives a wonderful glimpse into what they offer.
Catholic Youth Organization
The Catholic Youth Organization offers an extensive list of options with which youth can get involved. Baseball, Basketball, Cheer, Cross Country, Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Wrestling and more are offered. Akron is in the Cleveland Diocese, so don’t be surprised by the header on the website that says Cleveland.
YMCA of Greater Akron
The Akron YMCA offers an extensive list of programs from their various branches. You can find physical branches in Akron near Firestone Park and the University of Akron. Other branches include Green, Barberton, Riverfront (Cuyahoga Falls), and in Wadsworth, Ohio. Programs are also available in the Nordonia Hills area. See the website for more information.
Upward Christian Sports Leagues
Upward.org collects information on sports leagues and teams that are sponsored by various churches around town. While doing research I found a number of ‘dead’ sites with little information- however for Upward.org, I found plenty of choices!
