STOMP is performing at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall in Akron tonight, April 22nd, and tomorrow, Thursday, April 23rd, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. This international percussion sensation uses everything from Zippo lighters to supermarket carts to create a pulse-pounding, award-winning show that is perfect for all ages.
We are so lucky to have world-class entertainment right in our backyard. Tonight, I am heading to a show that our family has been fascinated by for years: STOMP!
I remember when the kids were little, we would spend hours watching STOMP clips on YouTube. They were absolutely mesmerized by how the performers could turn everyday items like matchboxes, brooms, and even kitchen sinks into musical instruments.
I wish my college kids were home from Ohio University this week! Attending an event like this as a family, those are the “magical” family memories that kids recall years later.
More Than Just Noise: A Global Sensation
Did you know STOMP has been touring for over 30 years? It started as a street performance in the UK and has since performed in over 50 countries! This isn’t just a fun night out; it’s a critically acclaimed masterpiece. We’re talking:
Olivier Award winner (the British Tony!)
Emmy Award winner for their HBO special Stomp Out Loud
Academy Award nomination
It’s a unique combination of percussion, movement, and visual comedy.

As co-founder Luke Cresswell says, they “make a rhythm out of anything they can get their hands on.” From synchronized stiff-bristle brooms to eight Zippo lighters creating a “fiery fugue,” it’s going to be absolutely electrifying.

The “Mom” Review: E.J. Thomas Hall & Playhouse Square
This show is a special partnership between Playhouse Square and The University of Akron. I love that Playhouse Square brings these high-caliber Broadway-style shows right to us in Akron.
I was just at E.J. Thomas Hall this past winter, and it is such a gem. One of the best parts? The convenience. We love driving up to Cleveland, but seeing a show at the University of Akron means no long drives and easy parking. The parking deck is close, and the theater itself is stunning. Other theater-goers always rave about the acoustics here—there isn’t a bad seat in the house!

Pro-Tips for Your Visit
The “Why” Factor: Why no intermission? Because the energy builds continuously! Make sure the kids hit the restroom before the 7:30 p.m. start time so you don’t miss a beat.
Industrial Inspiration: After the show, don’t be surprised if your kids or husband start “drumming” on the kitchen sink or using their boots to make music. You can’t get upset over a little creativity!
Last Minute Plans: Since there are only two performances, these tickets go fast. If you’re looking for a mid-week date night, a way overdue girl’s night out, or a way to bond with your teens, grab them now.
STOMP is explosive, witty, and utterly unique. As the New York Times says, it’s “as crisp and exuberant as if it had opened yesterday.” It’s a journey through sound that makes you appreciate the music in everyday life.
