Have you seen the previews for the HOP Easter movie? It premiers in theaters on April 1, 2011. We were able to get a sneak peek at this funny movie. I was excited to see this movie since it is made by the creators of Despicable Me and Alvin and the Chipmunks, both movies my kids like. Let me tell you about HOP.
HOP is all about E.B. who is a teenager animated bunny who likes nothing more than drums and music.Fred, a human lost his job a year ago and is holding out for a job that will live up to his dad’s expectations of him doing great things one day. Both E.B. and Fred lack support from their dads in doing what their dreams are.
In this animated meets reality movie, you’ll see a flying Easter sleighs, Willy Wonka factory where Easter baskets are made, and even pink beret bunnies. There is a rebellion among the chicks to take over the Easter Bunny role, captured human Fred, and fun music throughout. In the end, E.B. & Fred find favor in their father’s eyes by achieving greatness in unconventional ways. It is a colorful, exciting, funny movie!

My disappointment with the movie is 1 simple line of script that had no business being in a kids PG movie, especially an Easter Movie. It’s rated PG for “mild rude humor”. I know this is not a religious movie, simply an Easter Bunny movie. So, if it is not a religious Easter movie, why bring God in it at all? Why swear using God’s name in vain? Fred’s sister approached a stuffed animal and said , “Oh my God! Look at this! What a cute stuffed bunny”. I was offended and thought it was ridiculous that they added a blasphemous element to this Easter KIDS movie. That being said, cover your kids ears when it comes to that scene or I wouldn’t go see this movie, especially not with young kids.
This was not a paid post. My own opinions were used based on my perceptions and experience. Thank you to Social Moms who provided the tickets for review.
We took our kids to see it and I also found the Playboy mansion scene to be in very poor taste. “Sexy” is not something I want in my kid’s vocabulary or understanding right now.
I just didn’t expect it in a movie intended for kids, young kids! The rude humor was fine, nothing offensive. The reference to trying to get into the playboy mansion because that is where all the “sexy bunnies” stay was a little much for me too, again, being a kid’s movie.
That’s unfortunate about the God reference. Although I would have to say, in this day and age, if they only added it once that is pretty amazing. How did you find the rude humour?
