Are Store Brand Foods Good? My Giant Eagle Brand Review

Do you buy store-brand groceries? Are you afraid they won’t taste as good as the national brands? Giant Eagle store brand products are offered at significantly lower prices compared to national brands. There are more than 5,000 products offered across the store from the produce section to the diary section and everything in between with the Giant Eagle name on them.

So, how can Giant Eagle brands cost so much less than national brands? Because you are not paying for the advertising big-name brands spend. I have found that Giant Eagle brand products taste the same or even better than the national brands. It doesn’t hurt to try the Giant Eagle brand products, if you don’t like something, Giant Eagle will Double Your Money Back! Amazing, right? If you spend $100 in groceries a week (and who doesn’t with a family!), you could save an average of $10 a week, just by buying Giant Eagle brand products. This adds up to $520 a year!

My Giant Eagle Brand Shopping Trip

When given the opportunity to review some Giant Eagle brand products, I was all over it. I already shop Giant Eagle, earn both fuel rewards & food perks, and buy Giant Eagle brand products.  I was able to get a good selection of products that my family could try for breakfast, dinner, and snacks.

Giant Eagle Natures Basket Organic Pasta

I always buy Giant Eagle brand pasta from spaghetti to penne. If you have followed this blog for long, you know that I am easing my way into organic foods. I buy them when I can, when it is affordable. I have never tried Giant Eagle Natures Basket Organic Pasta until now. Let me tell you, my family really enjoyed it. I was a little unsure if I would like it because I tried some wheat pasta last year form another brand that I didn’t care for.

Giant Eagle Natures Basket Organic Pasta is organically-grown in Naples, Italy. They contain no genetically modified ingredients and are free of artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. It past the Orley taste-test too, it was perfectly ‘al-dente’.  The price is right too, especially for organic products at just $2.19 a box normally. Right now, it is 4 for $8, $2 each – time to stock up.

After this shopping experience, I am switching my family to the healthier organic pasta from Giant Eagle.

Giant Eagle Organic Pasta Sauce

Again, I buy a lot of Giant Eagle Pasta Sauce, but never tried the Organic Pasta Sauce until now. I never knew until now that there is a big difference in pasta sauce that is organic compared to not organic. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Giant Eagle’s pasta sauce but the organic tastes and flavors have been a pleasant surprise. Everything has a richer taste, a fresher taste.

At $2.99 a bottle, it’s affordable for organic. Compared to the traditional sauce, I might stick with my Giant Eagle brand sauces. However, when they are on sale like they are this week for 4 for $10, I can handle buying the jar for $2.50 each. Plus, I love it when Giant Eagle adds Fuel Perks to make the deal even better. If you buy 4 jars, you get 10 cents off per gallon of Get-Go gas, that’s $3 when you get the allotted 30 gallons! That equals just $1.75 for a jar of organic pasta sauce – try to beat that!

Giant Eagle Canned Tomatoes

From making homemade sauces to dishes like Macaroni and Tomatoes, I always buy Giant Eagle Canned Tomatoes. They are fresh and tasty every time. Plus, the price is just right. I don’t know if you can see in the picture below but Giant Eagle Canned Tomatoes are just $1.50 a can (not on sale) and are still less expensive than the national brand that is on sale for $1.99 a can. Crazy, huh? Plus, when you buy 10 cans right now, you get the extra 10 cents off per gallon of gas – which equals $3 in your pocket.

Giant Eagle Brand Syrup

Now that school is in session, I’m making my kids waffles, pancakes and french toast for breakfast. Giant Eagle Brand Syrup taste as good as the leading brand but at a fraction of the price. Right now, it is just  4 for $12, or $3 each. Top it off with 10 cents off per gallon of gas fuel perks and it is like getting 4 bottles for $9! You can’t go wrong with the selection, taste, and price.

Giant Eagle Brand Oatmeal

Giant Eagle Brand Oatmeal is just what fall and winter requires for a good hot breakfast. I’ve had their brand oatmeal in the past and it is just as good as name brands. They offer the best of flavors too. You can even buy the large container of oats too. Priced right now for just 2 for $5, you can serve your family a good, hot breakfast for just $.25 cents per serving! Can you believe it?!

Giant Eagle Fruit & Grain Moist & Chewy Bars

My son is required to bring 2 healthy snacks to school every day. One of those snacks that I pack is a Giant Eagle Fruit & Grain Moist & Chewy Bar. They contain 10 essential vitamins and minerals, making it a good choice for a healthy snack or on-the-go breakfast. The price is very good at just $3 a box regular and go on sale often. My favorite is strawberry and my kids like blueberry best. Oh, and speaking of kids eating snacks at school. If you are concerned that your kids will go to school with a generic looking snack, fear not. The bars are wrapped in shiny wrappers just like the competitors, so it is a non-issue.

Giant Eagle Brand Trash Bags

We tried out the Giant Eagle brand trash bags too, a first for us. They are sturdy and work just fine. Why pay more when you don’t have to?

How do I save money at Giant Eagle?

One way that I save money at Giant Eagle is by buying their Giant Eagle brand foods. I have for years and actually prefer some items more than other brands. For instance, their frozen pizza is way better than the way more expensive leading competitor brand. The crust cannot be beat for frozen pizza. Also, I buy in bulk. Not crazy Extreme Couponing bulk where I’m hiding food under my bed, but manageable, family style bulk. When a Giant Eagle brand product is on sale AND offers fuel perks, I stock up.

For instance, this week, the organic pasta sauce is on sale for 4 for $10, plus 10 cents fuel perks. I would most likely buy 12 jars of pasta sauce in a variety of flavors to ensure that we don’t get “tired of” pasta dishes. I would spend $30 and get $6 back in free fuel. Did I tell you that on Monday, I got $107.50 in FREE Gas from Get-Go because of Fuel Perks? It adds up and fast when you take advantage of the extra savings paired up with sale priced items.
