How to Make Cowboy Burgers

My kids and I were first introduced to Cowboy Burgers at Boy Scout Camp this Summer. They loved it. We decided to make them when my niece and nephews came over for a Cousins Campout last month. They are so easy to make and kids love them!

How to Make Cowboy Burgers

Place 1 hamburger patty on a piece of aluminum foil. I used angus beef patties from Giant Eagle. I cut them in 1/2 for the younger kids.

Add thinly sliced vegetables like onions, carrots, and potatoes. Tell your kids that they don’t have to eat the onions if they don’t want, but they add great flavor.kids-making-cowboy-burgers

Load up on the vegetables because they cook down.placing-vegetables

Add 1 ice cube to each burger, it keeps it moist while cooking.cowboy-burger-with-ice-cube

Wrap the cowboy burger up like a burrito.wrapping-foil

Place on hot coals on a low heat camp fire. We just used our outdoor fire pit.cowboy-burgers-on-hot-coals

Keep an eye on your cowboy burger so nobody else takes it. 🙂 Or label them.  It takes about 8-12 minutes to cook. Be sure to flip over 1/2 way through. Cut one open to be sure it is well done before serving.cooking-cowboy-burgers

It is that easy! Enjoy moist, delicious cowboy burgers. It is a fun change of pace way to eat and prepare a burger. It it out of the foil or throw on a hamburger bun.cowboy-burger-unwrapped
