I love to cook and entertain. But sometimes it is nice to let someone else worry about the cooking, and just enjoy a stress-free event. Having a party catered makes that possible. My daughter, Alyssa, recently had her First Communion. We wanted to make the day and our celebration at home with family and friends special, but because of our busy schedule that weekend, I didn’t want to do the cooking. We decided to call on the experts at Old Carolina Barbecue Company to prepare great food for our event.

If you have never tried food Old Carolina Barbecue Company, you are truly missing out! My daughters and I had our first taste at a PTO event at one of their schools. We were smitten at our first bites. Their meats are so good that adding sauce to the pulled pork and beef brisket is totally optional. I mean, I love barbecue sauce, but I can honestly say their pulled pork – sans sauce – is the best I’ve ever had.
Clearly, their pulled pork was on our First Communion party menu! Here’s a list of entrees and sides we ordered from Old Carolina Barbecue Company:
- Pulled Pork
- Beef Brisket
- Ribs
- Baked Beans
- Country Green Beans
- Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- Creamy Coleslaw
- 4 Cheese Mac-n-Cheese
- Hot Apple Sauce
That’s quite a list, isn’t it? Would you believe me if I told you that every item exceeded our expectations? Our guests commented on how great everything tasted. And, everyone – I mean everyone – had seconds. To me, that speaks volumes about the quality of the food! Often times a restaurant can be good at a few menu items, but then miss the mark on others. This is not the case with Old Carolina Barbecue Company. Each offering was delicious.

One of the things I noticed about Old Carolina’s food is that it was well seasoned, but not over seasoned. Their meats come without sauce, and you are given different flavors of sauces to serve alongside the meat. I love that. Not only does it mean that they are confident about the flavors of their meats, not hiding it under loads of sauce, but it also allows guests to choose their own sauce, and to choose how much sauce they like. In our family, our sauce preferences vary greatly. Several of our guests were like me, and just ate the pulled pork and brisket without sauce. The smoky, tender, slow-cooked flavor was so good, sauce really wasn’t necessary. For those that wanted sauce, we sure had them…5 of them! Old Carolina offers: Piedmont #5, Original Classic, Coastal Carolina, Original Gold, and Screamin’ Beaver. Truly, there is a wonderful sauce for every palate.

Lots of restaurant foods are over salty. Not Old Carolina Barbecue Company! Again, we felt their seasoning was just right, allowing the true flavors of each dish to shine through. Just look at the above photo of those perfectly cooked ribs. It’s making me hungry just looking at them, and remembering how good they were! Tender, fall-off-the-bone meat dressed in a great sauce. Yum!

I can’t tell you how nice it was have Old Carolina Barbecue handle the cooking for our party! I talked with Old Carolina Barbecue Director of Catering, Leslianne Love, who gave me some guidance on amounts of food needed, and what some of their most popular menu items are. We decided on a couple of their Party Packs, which included a meat entree, choice of two sides, and the buns needed for sandwiches. When my husband went to pick up the food the day of the party, everything was piping hot and completely ready to go at our pick up time. If you have questions about catering, give Leslianne Love a call at 330.289.7046 or via email at llove@oldcarolina.com – she’ll do a great job taking care of you!
