During our recent trip to Columbus, we took a side trip to Westerville, Ohio. My family was given the chance to Experience Columbus and received a promotional item from Experience Columbus to facilitate this post. The City of Westerville, Ohio has all the old-generation charm with updated shopping and dining. It is a well-kept city with beautiful hanging flower baskets on every light post. It is a city rich in history and heritage. The original settlers were in the Revolutionary War and many risked their lives as being part of the Underground Railroad. It is a city of progress, culture, and pride.
Hanby House
One of my favorite books is Sweeter than Birdsong, a fictional story based on a Westerville, Ohio family in the 1800’s. The story is about the Underground Railroad, freedom, and love. I was so excited to visit the Hanby House family in Westerville, Ohio. The Hanby House has seen such courage from the Hanby family that lived there as it became a refuge as a station on the Underground Railroad. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places, a landmark for the United Methodist Heritage, and recognized by the National Park Service Network to Freedom because of its significance to the Underground Railroad.

Westerville Grill
The Westerville Gril is an all-American Diner – from the experience and location to the diner food. Open all day, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner – with breakfast available all day every day. We decided to dine inside, outdoor patio seating is also available. While visiting, we noticed another couple visiting that had an Akron Zips t-shirt on! We weren’t the only people from Akron, Ohio that has discovered the Westerville Grill!
We dined at Westerville Grill for lunch. At the suggestion of our waitress, we ordered the Uptown Burger which is 1/2 pound burger that is grilled to order and topped with bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion. It is served on grilled Texas Toast. It’s amazing – full of flavor and large enough for my husband and I to share. I highly recommend it. We paired it with side salads for a very filling lunch. My kids ordered off the kids menu and enjoyed burger and chicken fingers with fries.
We had such an enjoyable diner experience at Westerville Grill. Everything was what you would expect and want out of an American diner experience. If you are in the area, it is worth stopping by. It is within minutes of Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park plan to visit Westerville, Ohio during your trip to Sky Zone.
