Chances are good that you already know the song, “The Bear Went Over the Mountain” and have probably taught your children. I was recently introduced to a delightful children’s storybook that builds on the familiar song with the addition of teaching young kids ages 4-8 about the 5 senses.
The Bear Went Over the Mountain, written and illustrated by Iza Trapani follows the adventures of a bear as he explores all 4 seasons through his 5 senses. This is a great picture book for kids to enjoy learning about the seasons and how to use their senses to explore nature.
My kids are big nature lovers, so we are outside year-round. Just like the bear, they can “smell” the season changes, hear nature singing it’s song, and explore with their senses. My son claims that he can even smell when it is going to rain – before it does. Who knows. This was a perfect book for my nature loving kids, it would also be a great way to expose kids that aren’t big into outdoors about the fun and beauty of nature.
The bear in The Bear Went Over the Mountain is such a lovable guy. The illustrations are so adorable and vibrant with color. He will have your children itching to go outside and explore on their own!
