A Mom’s Review of the SmartCUT Riding Cross Mower

Moving from a .3 acre lot to a 1 acre lot has given us a lot more yard to enjoy, which is all good until it is time to mow. Our yard is far from an easy mow. We have hills, ruts that need filled in, slopes, and plenty of trees to mow around. Last summer, we spent the entire time seeding the lot. By the end of summer, mowing the grass was becoming a dreaded, time consuming chore already. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoy the larger yard but the yard work takes a lot longer than on our smaller .3 acre lot.

Do you have a yard similar to ours that is not big enough to invest in an expensive, large tractor yet too big for a traditional push lawn mower? If so, you will be thrilled to find that there is a new “cross mower” designed just for people like us. The SmartCUT™ “Cross Mower” is for people with yards up to an acre that want an affordable, convenient, durable option that doesn’t require an extra storage shed! The compact design allows for easy storage right in your garage and for great maneuverability throughout your yard and around trees. You won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for the SmartCUT either!

The ground was soggy from having the most rainfall ever recorded for the month of April, but that didn’t keep us from taking a spin! We couldn’t wait to see how it would handle our rough terrain. To be honest, we had a few doubts. Sure, we expected it to ride well on a flat 1 acre lot but ours?!

The 10.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine is enough power to take us all over our yard! We were pleasantly surprised at how well the SmartCUT handled, even on our hilly, rough yard. We are working on our yard but it is just one project at a time around here, it is nice to know that this mower can handle our yard, even with it’s imperfections and all soggy.

Joyriding on the SmartCUT

So, the SmartCUT is not a toy and never should you take your kids on a mower. Sorry kids, this is a toy riding lawn mower for mom and dad. But who said you can’t have fun on a riding lawn mower?

Seriously, I had a great time checking out the SmartCUT. I have had no experience riding on a riding lawn mower. The SmartCUT is so easy to operate from the start. The instructions are simple with easy pictures to remember each function. The pedal controls both the brake and clutch with one foot.  It couldn’t be more simple. The electric start means that even I can start the mower, unlike our traditional push mower!

Speeding around the yard was great fun, knowing that I will be cutting my lawn mowing time down to a 1/3rd of the time will be amazing this summer!

My husband had to take a test drive too.

SmartCUT handles better than larger riding lawnmowers

Matt has experience with larger tractor lawn mowers from helping with the mowing of 6 acres summer after summer at home growing up. He likes the SmartCUT better than a large tractor lawn mower for several reasons. The SmartCUT has a tight turning radius because everything is so close together. You can tell what you are cutting easily with the rear-mounted engine puts the operator right up in front. Plus, storage is a non-issue with the compact design.

Even though the SmartCUT looks like a big toy to my kids, it is not safe for kids. Knowing that it wasn’t an option for them to ride, they got out their little battery powered car.

Now that the rain is starting to let up and the ground is less soggy, we expect to try out the mowing capabilities of the SmartCUT this week. I can’t wait to tell you how it goes!
