As a busy mom, I’m often found wearing jeans that were in style last year, flats, and a simple long sleeve shirt. I have to remind myself that I’m not just “mom”, I’m still a woman. Take time for yourself and it really shows in not only your appearance but also your self-image and attitude. I’ve compiled a list of 10 tips for weaving the hottest runway trends of 2011 into your day-to-day looks.
- Wear Orange. Orange is the new Red, red is out. Find a great piece in orange, something fun like a trench coat, purse, sweater, etc to liven up your wardrobe and get you back into style in 2011.
- Oversized Jewelry. The 2011 trend is oversized jewelry. This is a very fun trend that is sure to add interest to any outfit. Find a chunky, oversized necklace to emphasis your upper body while turning a simple outfit into a knock-out.
- Have fun with Patterns. Forget plain, go for interesting colors, bold stripes, ruffles, prints, and fringe. By just buying a couple pieces that stand out, you can really update your day-to-day look this season. Mix & Match your prints with a wacky combination.
- Trouser Pants. Pick up a pair for the office, on the town, or casual. Trouser Pants are flattering for many shapes and sizes and will be huge in 2011. Pair them with a fitting top that you already have in your closet.
- Cropped Jacket. The cropped jacket is going to be a big hit in 2011. Just buying this one item can really pull an outfit together, multiple outfits! Find something you’ll wear often like denim or leather style.
- Skinny Jeans. Nothing dates you more than your jean selection! Skinny jeans are in and so flattering. Find a great pair that lay just below your heel and you are good to go. Pair them with anything already in your closet.
- Get a great purse. Having a great purse is essential. It is your biggest accessory item for every single outfit. This season, mini messenger bags will be the hit. Purses don’t last forever anyway, you owe it to yourself and wardrobe to update your look with a great purse.
- Scarves. Scarves are big this winter both with your winter coat and as part of your outfit. Find a pattern and color that flatters your skin tone since scarves are so near your face. A striking scarf will update any outfit!
- Animal Prints & Fur. 2011 is all about animal prints and fur. Add a piece to your collection of accessories, jackets, tops,
- Vests. Instead of a sweater, add a great vest to your day-to-day looks this season. They keep your warm and are very stylish for 2011.

Find your right size and fit. This is key for this season and all seasons in your life. If you are wearing clothes too lose just because they are comfy, you may also look sloppy. If you are wearing those size 8 jeans just because that is the size you always get but really should get a size 10, that also shows, and not in a flattering way. Sales associates at many clothing stores will help fit you, if you allow it.
Buy a great pair of heels. So, you may not wear these heels while running to pick up your child at preschool or at the playground playdate…but you could! High heels make you look slender and your legs longer. They make you look great no matter what you are wearing – a suit or great pair of jeans.
