Today, I’m asking all my friends, family, and blog readers if I can borrow $1.
Yep, 100 pennies, 4 quarters, $1.
In two days, my family will be walking in our first JDF Walk to Cure in Cleveland, Ohio.
As you may have read, my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) in June. Type 1 Diabetes is rare, affecting only 5% of those with diabetes. He will have Type 1 Diabetes for the rest of his life – or until there is a cure.
There is no diet, exercise, or lifestyle change that helps with Type 1 Diabetes.
He will be insulin dependent for the rest of his life – that means:
1,500 shots or more a year…plus another 3,000 finger pricks a year.
Elijah was at the nurse clinic at school the other day for his lunch shot.
A boy asked Elijah, “Do you have to get a shot every day?”
My son said, “I wish!”
That breaks my heart! What kid wishes that he had to get a shot every day? My son is wishing he only had to get 1 shot a day instead of 4 or 5. It makes me cry inside every day…
I can’t believe how many needles we go through in a month! I can’t believe that I’ve given my son over 500 shots since June. I remember thinking “I CAN’T DO THIS!” when I had to give him his first shot at the hospital. I still cringe every time I have to give my sweet son a shot but know there is no other way. He needs insulin to live.
That is why I’m asking you if I can borrow $1 to go toward finding a cure. I say “borrow” because if you have a cause that you would like promoted or a donation, just ask.
JDRF raises vital funds that power the global movement to help cure, treat, and prevent Type 1 Diabetes. Your dollar goes a long way to help with this research.
Our team has raised $700 so far – THANK YOU all for your donations!!! If you haven’t donated yet, will you consider letting me borrow a dollar and donating on this secure website? JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes
Or, if you’d rather, you can write a check to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and send it to our local branch:
