We recently had our baby girl and wanted to make sure we had lots of photos of her just like our two boys. Finding someone who can capture the essence of your newborn on camera can be difficult. Photographing babies is not an easy task. We found Kara of Kara Whaley Photography & Design and she was a perfect match to help us hold onto the memories of our precious newborn daughter.

Setting up a plan
Kara Whaley was great about explaining all about the newborn photo shoot with us. She asked what we wanted photo wise and added her ideas to the mix. I was very flexible because I know how difficult babies can be and I didn’t want to have a set idea that our daughter might not like(position wise). Kara was very flexible and offered to come to us or have us come to her. Which I think is wonderful! So many of us new moms don’t want to go anywhere we don’t have too. I think is makes it so much easier on a new mom and keeps everyone in their comfort zone.

Starting Our Shoot
Kara Whaley had everything set up and ready to go. She had the room nice and warm (so warm that Doug fell asleep!). She also had props we could use (headbands, hats, etc.). We had the option to use our own things and we used a blanket made by grandma and a hat and blanket made by one of my close friends.
How To Plan a Newborn Photo Shoot
Once you are nearing your due date you can set up a newborn photo shoot. Kara Whaley is very understanding and knows babies come when they come, she waited patiently for me to have Scarlett and she made her arrival 5 days late so we had to hold off longer than anticipated. Kara didn’t mind and made sure to stay in constant contact with me as needed. The best time to do newborn photos is between 5 and 14 days old.
How Our Shoot Went
Our photo shoot was great! Kara was so patient and calm. She was very gentle with Scarlett and patient when we had to stop to nurse. She wasn’t even bothered when Doug fell asleep. 🙂 She kept white noise on to help prevent any startling and add to the calm. She had adorable props ready and was very flexible with any of my last moment changes. I was stunned at how well it went since we were about at the 14 days mark which meant Scarlett didn’t want to settle and sleep. Kara never gave up and while the shoot lasted a few hours it was well worth it. There was even points where Kara could calm Scarlett and I couldn’t.
