We have all heard the phrase, “It’s the thought that counts”. It is all about people reaching out to others with kindness in a form of a phone call, small gift, or other act of generosity. I’ve been blessed so many times over the past years and often it was the gesture that meant the most to me. For instance, people offering to carry packages and open doors when you are pregnant, meals delivered after having a baby or surgery, and last minute painting and gardening to prepare our house for an open house. We care for others because we love them. As a mom, I want my life to reveal this openly to my children.
Flu season is upon us. I’ve heard flu season is going to be really bad this year. This year, my family got flu shot from Giant Eagle (and received 20 cent extra fuel perks too!), so I feel secure in the health of my family. I’ve mentioned before that my father has Guillain Barr Syndrome. It is the #1 cause of paralysis without an injury. Triggers like sickness, including the flu can cause him another paralyzing episode. He cannot get a flu shot either for the same reason.
Yesterday, he was having flu-like symptoms and of course, I was worried. We decided to drop off a little love through chocolate chip cookies and a Kleenex Care Package that included Kleenex tissues and more. We didn’t stay long to visit since I didn’t want to take chances getting my kids sick but it was a small gesture to show we care. It is important for us to teach our kids by our actions to love and care for others, especially the sick and hurting. This was a small gesture, but it’s the thought that counts.
