We normally travel by car for vacation, so when we planned our West Coast vacation, I had to rethink my packing strategy. I needed clothes that would take me from the cooler weather of California’s Northern Coast to the hot Arizona dessert. I headed to Kohl’s for clothing for my entire family that would be versatile, cool, comfortable, and wrinkle free. Check out a few of our favorite outfits from Kohl’s.
Kids Clothes that Travel Well
Picking out clothes for Disneyland was planned ahead of time based on comfort and heat. We knew it was going to be a hot day, so we chose lightweight clothing that would keep us cool throughout the day. My daughter selected an outfit from Kohl’s Disney line. She couldn’t resist a Minnie Mouse shirt with matching skirt and my son looked cool in his athletic wear.
I received product to facilitate this post.
We just love the Disney Jumping Beans collection available exclusively at Kohl’s. They have all the Disney styles from Mickey and Minnie Mouse to all your favorite Disney characters including FROZEN. Although this skirt outfit looks lovely, it is also perfect for active kids like my daughter. The connected shorts underneath allows girls to be active, including climbing ropes! My daughter couldn’t get enough climbing the rope on Tarzan’s Treehouse at Disneyland, showing off her gymnastics skills!
If your son is like mine, he prefers to live in athletic clothing. Kohl’s always has great name brand athletic clothing at fantastic prices. My son wore a sleeveless Nike shirt with Adidas shorts to Disneyland and was comfortable and looking cool all day. He is also wearing sunglasses from Kohl’s which makes him look more like a teenager than a 10 year old, much to his delight.
He mixed and matched his Adidas shorts with other shirts throughout our recent West Coast trip. They are so versatile. I like that Kohl’s also offers their own branded clothing at really inexpensive prices to mix and match with the popular name brands, making it more affordable and more of a selection.
This Urban Pipeline brand sleeveless muscle tanks is one of my son’s favorite, we have one in a red color too. It is great for wearing anywhere, including at the beach! Priced at under $8, it’s a steal too!
We are also big fans of the Tony Hawk brand, also available at Kohl’s. While we were at a dude ranch in Arizona, my son wear a Tony Hawk tank with his jean for horseback riding in 120 degree temps – with plenty of sunscreen as well!
I was surprised when my son picked out this very lovely Urban Pipeline polo. It’s a bright color, which kids love and the fabric is a moisture-wicking polyester giving it a sporty feel that keeps him cool, while still looking a little dressed up. He wore this while sightseeing in San Francisco but could have easily paired it with a dress short or pants for a nice dinner out.
Instead, he paired it with Adidas pants and challenged the mechanical arm wrestling wrestler at Musee Mechanique Mechanical Museum. This is a must-have type of shirt while traveling since it doesn’t wrinkle much and is so versatile.
When we went shopping before our trip, my daughter selected two beautiful tank tops from the SO® collection at Kohl’s. This mock layered cropped tank is perfect for staying cool and stylish in the heat. She wore this lovely floral print while sightseeing in Las Vegas. Isn’t she pretty next to the mermaid at Belligo? The top is beautiful too with a layered look and tie back. She wore it with khaki shorts but it could easily be worn with a skirt for a nice dinner out.
She was cool as could be at the Arizona ranch in her butterfly tank with matching pink shorts and cowgirl hat. Giddy up! What a beautiful top to pack and made with polyester so it packs well with little wrinkles!
Travel Clothes for Men
Back in Las Vegas, I snapped this photo of my husband who was staying cool in the 123 degree temps in his blue IZOD shorts and white Croft & Barrow shirt. I like this outfit, especially the shirt. He’s had several of these casual, yet dressy-enough polo shirts. It is great for touring Caesars Palace as well as for date-night, casual business meetings, and to church. Both items packed very well and were basically wrinkle free right out of the suitcase.
While touring the Grand Canyon, my husband wore the same shorts (thanks to being able to wash them at our hotel in Vegas) with a fun “vacation” shirt. We call them vacation shirts because they scream summer and vacation to us. This retro style Newport Blue casual button down shirt with vintage Corvettes and palm trees was perfect for our trip. I like the cotton rayon fabric that keeps wrinkles away too. Kohl’s has a great selection of shirts similar to this with themes like palm trees, cars, sail boats, and other beach and vacation themed designs.
Travel Clothes for Women
One of my favorite go-to outfits for traveling is a basic black shirt and khaki shorts. My husband and I both wore this outfit when we toured Hearst Castle – although it wasn’t planned!
The Sonomai shorts that I’m wearing is now one of my favorite pairs of got-to shorts for both comfort and style all Summer long. The elastic waistband makes them great for traveling in comfort, whether you are touring the countryside, hiking, flying, or just shopping. Don’t let the elastic waistband turn you off, they also come with a full zipper fly and button. The linen and rayon blend of fabric makes them wrinkle free for traveling as well.
I wore the below Simply Vera tank with Sonoma shorts to Disneyland, it kept me cool, comfortable, and stylish all day.
I love crinkle tops, especially for traveling- you never know if they are wrinkled! This Simply Vera Vera Wang Print Crinkle Tank is available in a variety of colors and patterns. I’m a big fan of Simply Vera Vera Wang brand for the feminine, yet chic look. With details like the chiffon trim, this tank can take you from sightseeing to dinner out.
The Sonoma Life & Style Linen-Blend Shorts are available in a variety of colors and prints, offering a soft, light-weight short for any occasion. They come with a coordinating rope belt. The linen and rayon fabric combination offers a comfortable linen that wears and travels well.
Once I was able to wash out clothes, I wore the same tank with the Sonoma shorts to Las Vegas. You can’t go wrong packing a couple pairs of neutral color shorts/pants while traveling for mixing and matching.
Another item you can’t go wrong with while traveling is athletic clothing, they are cool, comfortable, and don’t wrinkle much at all. I like Tek Gear because it is an affordable brand without logos, making this athletic top casual enough to wear anytime without screaming athletic. It kept me cool while visiting the Grand Canyon!
I also wore it on the ranch in Arizona.
I got one in pink too at the London Bridge since it was such a great deal and comfortable!
Instead of a plain tshirt, pack casual shirts that have interest like this daisy fuentes Smocked Embroidered Peasant Top that has an embroidered hem and smocked neckline to add a feminine touch and style. What else would I wear to meet Anne Hathaway and eat clam chowder in San Francisco or a day on the ranch?
We enjoyed our trip, looked great, and I didn’t iron a single piece of clothing! The key to packing for a trip is to think ahead about the activities you’ll be enjoying, then find clothes that you can mix and match, that breath well, and don’t retain wrinkles. Find it all at Kohl’s.
