I don’t know which is harder for kids, being a preteen or a teenager in today’s world. We force our kids to grow up so quickly and then wonder where their childhood went. Preteens and teenagers deal with a lot these days, having solid relationships to parents, family, friends, and other mentors is essential. Sometimes though, having a book to read on their own that will provide inspiration and support is just as important.
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Preteens Review
If you have a preteen, you know that there are many stresses in their lives. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Preteens will give your preteen/tween great stories that will let them know that they are not in this alone. Knowing that other kids are going through the same things AND were able to get through it is encouraging for tweens.

This book is full of stories about Feeling Good About Yourself – #1 necessity of tweens during this awkward age. There are many stories about frienships, first loves, what to do when the going gets tough, embarrassing moments, bullies, and family.
Bulling is a big issue in the United States right now. You hear about it all the time. I’m glad that there is a whole collection of stories about bulling. Who knows, it might inspire kids on how to react.
My favorite story was entitled “The Ultimate Revenge”. It was all about a girl who moved to a new school in 7th grade, which I also did. Going to a new school, especially during junior high is so difficult. Add a bully who won’t stop and this poor girl had such a difficult time. She was able to stop the bully for a while by saying that he if hurt her, she would tell and he would get in trouble. Then, she made friends that stuck up for her.
Throughout 7th and 8th grade, this boy wouldn’t give up, teasing, insulting, and snapping rubber bands at her. Luckily in 9th grade, she had no classes with him. In 10th grade, the boy sat two seats in front of her. After class, he asked her if she knew what the homework assignment was. He didn’t recognize her! Then he asked her if she wanted to “go with” him, to be his girlfriend. She asked him if he knew who she was. He looked confused. She took a rubber band and snapped it at his hand and said, No. What revenge!

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Teenagers Review
Then comes the teen years. This is when kids are becoming adults, when friendships change, when dating starts, when family issues at home get weird, when school is more difficult, and possibly a part time job begins. Wow, the teen years are hard! Add in peer pressure and it’s about too much to handle.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Teenagers is sort of like a support group for teens. In this book they will get support and encouragement from teenagers that have lived their same experiences and made it. Topics include friendship, life lessons, liking yourself, love, family ties, tough times, taking a stand, kindness, goals, and funny moments.
My dad is a pastor, with that came the freedom to be at pretty much any event or activity that I was involved in as a child and teenager. I was a lucky one. My kids are lucky too since their dad works from home. We are blessed to both be able to attend football practice, soccer practice, and school programs.
In Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Teenagers there was a great story called “A Father’s Love”. It is about a teenage girl playing the big softball game that would allow them to go onto the championships. Her mom was in the crowd but her dad wasn’t. This was normal but she always longed for her dad to be there. Her team scored the winning goal and they were going onto the championships! She had feelings of excitement and resentment. Why couldn’t her dad be there to see this? Her mom congratulated her but the girl wanted to talk to her dad. She called him, he congratulated her and apologized that he was not able to see it, he was sorry. At that moment, she let go of the anger and resentment. She realized that her dad worked hard everyday so that they could afford for her to do things like softball. He cared.
