When I was in elementary school, I was often chosen to sing solos at church for special programs at Christmas, etc. I’m not sure if it was because I was the preacher’s daughter and they thought they had to let me or if I could actually sing. I question this because I don’t really sing well as an adult, unless it is in the car with the music blaring. 😉
My daughter loves music and dance, she has always been drawn to it. Most kids CDs are fine enough but don’t really teach kids to sing. For the first time, there is a product developed by the Music Intelligence Project that actually teaches kids real music. The Tuneables is a fun learning tool for kids ages 3-8 to learn age-appropriate music. With many schools cutting out their music program budgets, this is an excellent tool for preschoolers through 3rd grade to teach your kids music at home.
The Tuneables Review
When I agreed to review The Tuneables, I simply thought of it as a DVD for my daughter to watch. I didn’t expect much learning or interest outside of watching the DVD. My husband popped in the DVD one evening while I went to the grocery store. To my surprise, my daughter carried the lessons and concepts from watching the DVD into real life. When I returned home, she was gathering all sort of things and putting them on the table. I had no idea why but I could see that she was on a mission.
Tuneables inspired my daughter to make her own music
The Tuneables actually teaches kids how to make music, not just to just sing and dance along to songs. It teaches kids age-appropriate lessons on how to hear and sing tonal patterns in songs, develop rhythmic skills, expand the range of their singing voices and to become immersed in the sounds and melodies of classical music.
Sample of how The Tuneables teaches kids rhythm
The next day, my daughter and I were in the car when she started singing the “I Love Music” song when I popped the CD in and started patting while she was singing. She only watched the video one time with the instructions on keeping rhythm. She was singing right along and patting her legs to the beat.
We watched the DVD again a couple days later, singing and patting together. She’s got some rhythm! The “I Love Music” song also teaches tonal patterns of Sol-D0-Mi Sol-Mi-Do. This is totally new to my daughter too. And honestly, I can use the refresher too! Understanding the musical scale at an early age can help kids as they develop their singing voice and learn a musical instrument.
Now is the perfect time to teach your young kids ages 3-8 about music, they are like little sponges! Plus, The Tuneables DVD makes it fun and active learning for them. The characters are very fun, each character is made up of their own instrument. It is a very creative way to give human attributes to musical instruments.
Buy The Tuneables
I highly recommend The Tuneables as a music education resource to teach kids music at home or just for fun. It would make an excellent birthday gift or Christmas gift as well – something they will enjoy now and retain benefits from for a lifetime. You can’t say that about many kids’ gifts.
