As my 6 year old son is just starting to lose interest in crafty projects, I was looking for more exciting big boy projects. My husband is an electrical engineer by trade and prides himself at being a geek at times. I like the geeky side of him, the smart side that teaches my kids all about science. He’s able to teach and entertain at the same time. One of the reasons that I married him is because I knew he would be a good dad. Ok, enough mushiness. I came across the book, Snip, Burn, Solder, Shred and knew it was the perfect project book for Elijah and Daddy.
Snip, Burn, Solder, Shred Book Review
Snip, Burn, Solder, Shred is a book packed full of fun projects, crafts, and all things geeky. What I like about this book is that it comes with simple, easy to understand instructions and the crafts are cheap. One thing I’ve learned about crafts is that they can end up costing a lot of money after buying all the materials. This book uses items often found in your junk drawer or garage.

The first section of the book is dedicated to kids. These are fun projects that you can do as a family or one-on-one with your child. For the kids projects, you could make a Treasure Chest, a Switchbox, Sock Squid, PVC Teepee, Mesh Screen Printing, Pirate Dicing Game, Tickle Jolt Box, and small Go/Tafl Game. Don’t all those activities sound perfect for boys?! Way better than bead necklace making! We gotta let our boys be boys, Snip, Burn, Solder, Shred encourages it! (Of course girls will enjoy this book too!)
The next section is all about music and sound. You’ll learn how to make a $10 Electric Guitar, XRay Talking Drum, Thunderdrum, an Amp, Stomp Boxes, and more. The last section is focused on everything that flies, Cardboard Boomerangs, Pop Can Flyer, Water Rocket, Robot, FedEx Kites, and the ever-exciting Marshmallow Muzzleloader.
Check out this video on a simple project on how to make a Water Rocket, any kid would be amazed by this!

This is a fun book for a rainy day or weekend project. It is not only a fun and bonding time but an educational time as well.
