What’s a New Mom in Akron to Do??

Jocelyn of Cuyahoga Falls Ohio posted a question via our community question form the other day, asking if we know of a good list of mom-and-me classes in the area.  I said I don’t know.  Let me check..

First though, she was concerned about nap schedules still for her one year old, but wants to get out and meet new moms too!!

So, thankful that WE DO have a great local community that responds to local posts on Facebook, I pasted the question there and waited… for a few minutes… and we received a wide swathe of results!!

Stow Kent Playgroup – For moms and toddlers alike!

Amanda E. suggests a Free Membership to the Stow Kent Playgroup that simply posts to facebook when an activity is planned that often revolve around community events.  There are no planned meetings, so it’s a come as you can type thing- this many work out very well with someone watching a nap schedule….  They say “it’s a fun group of Moms!”  Sounds like no risk, plenty of opportunity!    Found on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/stowkentplaygroup/

Kent Yoga – A Great Mom and Me Activity

Amanda also wants you  at Yoga Babies (and Moms) and Yoga Kids classes!  I was skeptical at first when I saw this post, thinking it was just an a shameless plugn, but they really do offer Yoga for adults that can be done in a playful way interacting with babies and toddlers.
A nice support group for moms and dads.  http://www.kentyoga.com  The next class starts next Friday the 14th of September.  Sign UP!

Akron Zoo Stroller Safari

https://www.akronzoo.org/2013EC.pdf.

Susi W. recommended the Akron Zoo Stroller Safari.  Designed for kids under 5 with a caregiver, the scheduled programs offer animal encounters (which I just love – see all my akron zoo posts!) Personally, I bought a zoo membership every year and took my kids to the zoo monthly for YEARS.  Great recommendation Susi!

Music Together Summit – For Moms and Toddlers

http://www.musictogethersummit.com

Rebecca suggested MusicTogetherSummit. Their Music Togetherclasses build a child’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement, all the while letting mommy enjoy the moments!  The pictures are cute and the kids look happy and a ‘movin!!  They keep classes in Hudson and in Fairlawn.

Libraries

Lindsay, proud mamma of a 1 and 2 year old, suggests the various story times at the Hudson Library.  I recommend ANY library near you!  Ohio has some of the BEST libraries in the country, and the  world.  We are truly blessed to have them here and I recommend finding out all you can about your local venue!

Hudson Preschool Parents

http://www.hudsonpreschoolparents.org/ was also recommended by Lindsay.  It is a pay to join organization, currently serves about 350 kids between the ages of 0 and 5, and their purpose is to enrich the lives of preschool children and their parents through education, socialization, activities and community service while establishing the foundation for a positive transition into a school system.”  Sounds like they have their act together!

MeetUp.com for parenting clubs

Shawna suggested simply checking out all of the clubs that post events at meetup.com.  I myself checkout Meetup regularly.  There are meetings and clubs for people that want to play board games, go kayaking together, or play trivia at a bar.  The options are huge, and there are plenty of mom -and- me type gatherings that advertise and showcase their events there.  Highly recommended!!
