Long time readers of this blog know that I have been against common core, and, here in Ohio, the associated PARCC tests. I chose to OPT my son OUT of 4th grade PARCC tests and showed thousands of you how to do the same.
A larger point of view today on Common Core. From a 5th grade mom perspective, I live and breathe Language Arts and Math CC issues daily. The Math is a mixed bag- some great strategies mixed with Not drilling kids with times tables and regular multiplication. Ridiculous. And the Language Arts of teaching children to be editors and story critics is a dreadful task to children.
Given, there are some good things about Common Core, but there’s too much bad, too much testing, and too much federal control. Local schools should decide what gets taught, not out of touch federal beauracrats that live on the high plane of Washington DC.
