Continual reading is so important for kids, especially in the Summer to avoid “Summer Brain Drain.” Make it fun by giving your kids plenty of options like reading with you, joining a Summer reading program, or reading club.
I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for JetBlue. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
Our Summer Reading
Our local library’s program gives kids incentives to read. My kids keep track of their daily reading (20-40 minutes daily) on a sheet. Each week they get to play a board game at our library for chances to win prizes based on how many minutes they read.
My son enjoys reading books like Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Goosebumps, and Geronimo Stilton. My daughter enjoys Ivie and Bean, Nancy Clancy, and Amelia Bedelia. They both enjoy The Magic Tree House chapter books because they are full of adventure and revolve around Jack, who is 8 and Annie, who is 7 (my son is 9 and daughter is 7).
Traveling with Books
I always pack books for my kids to read during trips to keep them entertained – and learning. My kids have never flown but are so excited to fly soon on JetBlue to California next year. A great series of books for traveling (and anytime) for kids is The Magic Tree House. My kids have entered to win The Magic Tree House grand prize for our library’s Summer reading program in hopes of adding it to our own collection of books. Our fingers are crossed!
I try to match up what they are reading with the season of the year or for traveling, the destination. I plan to pick up The Magic Tree House: Vacation Under the Volcano and Pirates Past Noon for that trip.
JetBlue’s Soar with Reading and Sweepstakes
We are always picking up books as rewards for our kids, and receive them as gifts from family and friends. I love that my kids enjoy reading and have a fantastic collection. Unfortunately, books can get expensive and not accessible to kids in need.
JetBlue is partnering with The Magic Tree House author Mary Pope Osborne to encourage kids to read and to donate $500,000 in books to kids in need with the JetBlue’s Soar with Reading program.
You and your kids can help by tracking Jack and Annie Summer Adventures online and with their app. Guess where Jack and Annie are headed next and JetBlue will donate one book to kids in need and you are entered to win great prizes including a JetBlue Getaways Vacation! It is super easy and fun for kids to play, just start by watching Mary Pop Osborne’s clue video.
Not only is it fun to watch the video and guess where Jack and Annie are going but it teaches kids about geography! Kids always learn with The Magic Tree House and it is always fun. There are great activities and free The Magic Tree House printables on the JetBlue Soar with Reading website under the Activities tab that you can download and print for your kids. My kids love the 2014 Magic Tree House: Passport to Adventure. It is a pocket size guide that includes a bunch of activities and games they can play.
Your kids can even send family and friends e-cards that they personalize like the one my kids did for their grandparents when we were on vacation.
Don’t let Summer pass your kids by without fun reading opportunities and without taking the chance to win JetBlue! It only take a few minutes to guess where Jack and Annie are going next. Just go to JetBlue’s Soar with Reading to start!
Who knows, maybe your family will win!
There will be 6 first-prize trips throughout the summer (JetBlue Getaways Travel Certificate for two and an autographed copy of Magic Tree House #52: Soccer on Sunday) and 1 grand-prize drawing for a JetBlue Getaways vacation for up to four people and a Magic Tree House boxed set of books.
