Easter is a time of traditions for my family, and a time of deep reflection on Jesus Christ. I love the fun traditions that we have enjoyed with our kids as they were growing up, Easter bunny, Easter baskets, and Easter Egg Hunts. We also have traditional recipes that we have enjoyed adding to our family from my husband’s side of the family including Easter Babka bread. I’ve always seen Hot Cross Buns online and in stores for Easter but never had them or knew much about them. I was sent this recipe by St Pierre’s Brioche company and decided to look into it. More on my thought below – but here is the Easy Hot Cross Buns Recipe.

- Begin by preheating your oven according to the St Pierre Brioche package instructions. This step bypasses the need for dough proofing, making the process more manageable.
- Mix apricot jelly with hot water until you have a thin glaze. Brush this mixture over the brioche buns before baking, ensuring they come out of the oven with a tempting golden glow and added sweetness.
- After baking, draw a cross on each bun using a simple icing made from powdered sugar and milk. This iconic touch is what transforms these brioche buns into genuine hot cross buns.
- Serve these delicious buns warm, allowing the blend of sweet brioche and apricot glaze to delight your taste buds. They're perfect for Easter breakfast or brunch and are sure to become a new favorite.
The Tradition of Hot Cross Buns
Hot cross buns, with their distinctive cross on top, are a hallmark of Easter. Traditionally baked for Good Friday, they symbolize the crucifixion of Jesus, with the spices inside representing those used to embalm him. While crafting these buns from scratch is a rewarding endeavor, it usuallyrequires a considerable amount of time and effort.
If you are like me and like to enjoy traditions but already have a lot on your plate, there is a way to keep the spirit of the traditional hot cross buns alive while significantly simplifying the process. By using St Pierre’s lightly sweetened Brioche Burger Buns or Slider Rolls, we can achieve a similar taste and texture with minimal effort. This method not only cuts down on preparation time but also adds a touch of Parisian elegance to our Easter feast.
