Sterling Publishing is one of my favorite children’s book companies. They consistently release fun, charming books that my kiddos enjoy reading. Two of their latest releases, “Nightly-Night, Sleep Tight” and “The Big Bad Wolf Goes On Vacation” are no exception. I received a copy of each of these books to facilitate my review.
Review of Nighty-Night Sleep Tight by Jennifer Berne
This is such a cute book for little ones from Sterling Publishing! The colorful, engaging illustrations show animals all over the world getting ready for bed. The sweet rhymes tell about how these animals cozy up at bedtime, and teach the reader about where the animals live and what each environment is like. I don’t know that I have ever read a bedtime story book so packed with interesting animal facts! I can definitely see this book getting pulled off the shelf by little hands time and time again. It is such a fun read.
On bed sheets of ice in a bleak Russian storm, the walrus all cuddle to keep themselves warm. High on mountains in China, with a full moon in view, the pandas curl up in their beds of bamboo. Dreaming dreams under blankets of stars. Sweet dreams under blankets of stars.
Author Jennifer Berne creates such great imagery with her poetry. “Nighty-Night, Sleep Tight” is targeted at children 3-5 years of age. My almost 6 year old loves this book, and I am quite sure we will continue reading it together for some time to come.
Review of The Big Bad Wolf Goes On Vacation by Delphine Perret
This is one of those unique books that everyone should own “just because.” Why? Because it is cleverly laid out and written. The book reads much like a comic book, with several frames and text on each page. It also has 12 mini chapters. This is a book that will have kids and adults alike giggling. The hip lingo will please kids, and the playful humor will have adults smiling.
“The Big Bad Wolf Goes On Vacation” tells the story of a young boy named Louis and the adventures he has with the Big Bad Wolf, who secretly lives in his closet. Louis is telling the Big Bad Wolf how excited he is for his annual trip to the beach with his grandpa. Big Bad Wolf decides he’d like to venture out of the closet, and asks if he can go along. Grandpa agrees to bring the wolf along, but Louis and Grandpa inform the wolf that he’ll need to pretend to be a dog – a Big Bad Wolf out in public would not go over well!
What ensues on their trip to the beach is a bunch of silly mishaps and fun times. The book ends with Grandpa, Louis, and the Big Bad Wolf building sand castles, swimming, eating ice cream, and just having a ball on the beach.
This book makes me smile each time I thumb through it. 🙂
