Make your kids Money Savvy with Money Savvy Pig Bank

Growing up I never had a “piggy” bank but I did have a large milk glass jar when I was in Junior High that I would put my loose change into.  Every week I would empty out my change purse and only leave 2 quarters,  2 dimes, 2 nickels and  5 pennies for a new week.  The excess change I would put into the jar and slowly watch the level of coins get higher and higher.  I would love to tell you that I still have this jar and it is filled to the brim, but that would be lying to you and I don’t want to do that!  🙂  I am going to be introducing you to the Money Savvy Pig® which is a cool new way to teach children about saving and spending their money.

History of Piggy Banks

Have you ever wondered how Piggy Banks got their name?  In the 1700’s people used to save their money in jars made of orange clay called pygg clay. Over time they started calling them pygg jars, then pygg banks was used and now we call them piggy banks!  Bet you didn’t know that!?

The Money Savvy Pig

The Money Savvy Pig® is more than a piggy bank, it is a interactive financial tool to help kids get smart about money! Teaching financial responsibility is a very important task I believe that all parents need to pass onto their children.  It can be done at an early age and if the principle is kept up with, money savvy kids will turn into money savvy economically literate adults.  I definitely want to raise T-boy and J-Girl to be responsible with their money so that they do not have to deal with financial stress when they are out of the “nest”.

Money Savvy Pig Bank in Green all ready to go!

By using the Money Savvy Pig® in conjunction with a bank savings account, mutual fund etc., we as parents can help our children learn important basic personal finance concept skills like short and long term goal setting, delayed gratification, time value of money and the power of investing over a long time period.

This is such a cool product and when I saw it I knew that this was something that T-boy would be into it since he is great at helping around the house in hopes of getting a few dollars for his allowance. The Money Savvy Pig® is not your average piggy bank, it is the piggy bank for the 21st Century! It is a fun, unique, patented four slotted piggy bank with separate chambers to SAVE, SPEND, DONATE and INVEST.

What is nice is that T-boy can decide what chamber he wants to put his money in since there are stickers to help him visualize his goal.  For instance in the Donate chamber he drew a paw print on one of the blank labels (included with product) so that he could donate to the Humane Society of Greater Akron PAWSibilites to help aid animals in need in our area.
