Master Bathroom Update: Our Walk In Shower

A generously-sized walk-in shower was at the top of our must haves for our master bathroom. In fact, walk in showers are one of the most requested features in master bathrooms for new homeowners so the return on investment will surely help if we ever decide to move.

While traveling, we’ve always enjoyed the spacious walk in showers with tiled walls so t hat was our plan. But first, plumbing!

This is a sponsored post for Mansfield Plumbing. All opinions are my own.

There are many things that we do as DIY projects. Things like plumbing and installing a shower base is probably best left to the professionals. We are very lucky to have my father-in-law to help, he’s had his own home remodeling business for more than 30 years. Since we doubled the size of the original bathroom, we had to run all new drains and plumbing to the side of the bathroom with the shower and tub.

Once the plumbing was in place, we built walls! Now we can really see the bathroom coming together.

Next, we added drywall – this is where I can start to finally help! I’m not the best but I’m detailed oriented enough to work on finishing the drywall with tape and joint compound. Again, my father-in-law is a professional and was able to go back and fix any spots that I added too much joint compound, etc.

I’ve done joint compound and sanded to perfection throughout the house but we want this bathroom to be perfect because Mansfield Plumbing is coming out to take professional photos of the completed project!

We couldn’t be more excited that our bathroom sponsor is Mansfield Plumbing! Their bathroom products are of the highest quality made right here in the USA!

We knew that we wanted a shower base for our walk-in shower for a number of reasons. It’s safer to have a shower base on the second floor to avoid water damage! It’s easy to clean and shower bases are easier on the feet than slippery, hard tile.  We spend a lot of time in the shower – daily so we wanted to have a quality product.

Mansfield Plumbing shower bases make it easy to add a modern stand-up shower to your bathroom at affordable prices. We we’re really pleased with options that Mansfield Plumbing had for size and shapes for walk-in showers.  We chose the 4236STLS Shower Base 48×34 , it is generously sized – much larger than our shower/tub combo was but not too huge. Mansfield Plumbing has shower bases smaller and larger than what we chose.

The Mansfield Plumbing base was easy to install by my husband and father-in-law. It was simple, straight out of the box with no surprises.

You can choose to add a surround wall or use a surface like we did with ceramic tile. I love the look of ceramic tile from floor to ceiling in walk-in shower so this was a no-brainer for us. Tiling the walls only took a couple hours at most since we used large tile sizes.

We also added a built-in shower shelf to hold our shampoo and soaps. This took a little extra time but the convenience will be worth it in the end.

According to a popular bathroom trends website, 68% of homeowners would prefer a larger shower in the master bathroom so we are happy that we decided to go this route.

Isn’t the shower gorgeous?! I can’t wait to install the shower head and take a shower in it!

To the left will be our freestanding bathtub. We will be installing the  Mansfield Plumbing Lana freestanding bathtub, it is really going to add luxury to our bathroom and outshine our already gorgeous shower, I just know it. Adding a freestanding bathtub to a master bathroom remodel is a viable investment for any home, especially a timeless freestanding bathtub.

I know that we will enjoy this shower way more than our previous shower! What do you think?

I love, love, love the new walk-in shower!

The Mansfield Plumbing base was the perfect choice. It looks pretty, keeps the water inside the shower (compared to tile), and is easy to clean.

Running new plumbing and drains, building walls, dry-walling, and adding a shower has been a LOT to accomplish this past week or so, but it is so worth it. I can really see our new master bathroom coming together!! I can’t wait till the hard work is over and we can start enjoying this new space. Stay tuned for more construction photos and posts and for the final reveal!
