A family vacation is an opportunity for memories galore, but it can also be a massive source of stress. Try these family vacation planning tips for help.
“Are we there yet?”
Vacations can be some of the best times of our lives, but planning a family vacation doesn’t have to be one of the worst ones. Check out some of these pointers on how to plan the perfect family getaway!
- Pick a Popular Destination
It may seem like picking a popular destination isn’t cool because that’s what everyone does, but there is a reason behind this tip. Popular destinations are much more likely to have kid-friendly amenities. Making sure you have everything you need for your kids will make your vacation a lot more relaxing and enjoyable.
Pick a popular resort or theme park, and do some research into what is available for the kids to do and eat. Do they have kid-friendly hotels? Picking a location that does will save you some major headaches!
What about a cruise? You don’t have to just dream about going on a cruise to Bermuda, you actually can! Cruises are a great option for the whole family, packed with stuff to do for all ages. A big plus is that you don’t have to worry about navigating. Once you get on the ship, they do the rest!
- Pack Smart
One way you can reduce stress before and during your trip is by packing smart! As the trip approaches, create a packing list and use it to prevent leaving something behind.
There are some things you need to pack, but there is a lot you don’t. Dragging your entire closet around on vacation is only going to lead to more stress, so try to pack as lightly as possible. If it’s possible to do laundry on your trip, opt for that option and pack less clothing.
Buy things when you get there. You may be able to purchase some things like diapers or shampoo near your destination to save on having to lug all of that stuff with you.
- Listen to the Kids
Kids are going to get crabby, it’s a reality of life. Your vacation will go smoother though if you can minimize the time they spend that way.
If they are old enough, try talking to them ahead of time as you plan the vacation. Ask them what kind of activities they want to do. Present options. You have the final say of course, but let them have some input.
When planning the trip, try and keep your schedule open and flexible. Don’t try and jam too much into one day. One or maybe two attractions per day depending on the age of your kids is probably best.
When they do start to get hungry or tired, take a break. Don’t try and push through and force them to do things they don’t want to do just because it’s on the schedule. Be ok with not doing something that was planned. You may find that just relaxing where you are and connecting with your family is just as good.
